I don't reckon it looks too out of place, it's certainly a lot better than having a B17 or something on there :) .

Order a pair of cleats and a new multi-tool over the long weekend and it turned up yesterday. Pretty happy with that again :D

Yeah I think it looks ok, I expected it to look a lot worse than it does. The bike is black with flecks of metal and the seat meshes in with that. That seat is a huge improvement though and not broken in yet... if it keeps me riding more I don't care how it looks, it's earned it's spot (and extra weight).
RonK wrote:Most likely your shoes are too tight...or too small.
That could be a good point. I do latch them up quite firmly, maybe when I go out tomorrow I'll leave the cleats alone but slack off the velcro and ratchety thing.

Hahah, well, I go for long rides and need phone (Galaxy Note, bordering on a tablet!), Co2 (x3 cos I'm a Co2 noob and expect to fail), patches, tube, tool, house key and a gel satchet for emergency energy. Only just fit all it that monster saddle bag. I ain't sticking it in all a jersey or a backpack, find it uncomfortable. I don't actually notice the seat bag much I can feel it wiggle a little when I stand up to pedal, besides that it's not really there. It actually pulls itself up under the brooks very nicely and gets wedged in there better than with the stock saddle.

Oh yes, forgot to mention cleat position. By default start with them all the way back. You can't do any harm setting them this way, but you sure can if they are too far forward.

But you are right - don't make too many adjustments at the same time. Just loosen off your shoes for a start.

By all the way back, you mean to the heel?

Intersting, the guys at Ivanhoe Cycles told me the opposite, start near the toes and move back. :/

Poor advice, and likely to lead to achilles and calf problems. Hard to believe a bike shop told you that.

Read the advice of an expert, Steve Hogg, advocating a position even further back than is possible with standard shoes - the mid-foot cleat position.

Well, I rode a brisk 45km this morning with the shoes slackened off and while it seemed a little better, I did still get tingling feet from about 30kms. I was thinking during the ride that it could be related to my new seat not quite being broken in, it does hurt between sit bone and seat a bit though it's not really bad and it will go as the seat breaks into to my body. I can see the seat starting to bend already after two rides.

I had read somewhere once upon a time to start cleats at the front and then work back as needed. I see now that's bad advice, and I'll slide them back somewhat. I actually prefer a bit further back than where it is, I was having it forward as I mistakenly thought it was better technique. Just reading that article, very helpful, thanks.

Hi Brizzy_Nub, my experiences with the Brooks Swallow is very similar. Had one on a bike when I was a courier in Philly 20 years ago, and ended up changing it to a Selle Italia Turbomatic. The Swallow did look quit nice though and it pained me to take it off, although not having numbness felt better. Maybe should have given it a bit more break-in time or wore thicker chamois shorts.

Pretty stellar review really.

Interesting how they talk about it being so aggressive, I'm quite at home on the 2.0 I guess I just like an aggressive setup... :) which I didn't know. I've been doing mostly 40-60km twice a week, concentrating on keeping effort up rather than chugging out long kms. I do find I need to concentrate on not letting my low back curve too much after say 30kms or I'll start to ache a bit there, and I do find I change hand positions a bit as I'm carrying a little weight on my arms. Still tweaking the setup though. I have been thinking some deadlifts and push ups would help for longer 100km type rides.

So, I suppose that all does make it on the aggressive side.

Thanks Mark. It is early days, but I do think the Swallow will be OK. I'll see I suppose. It feels great to get on but I do just get those two little sit bone spots of numbness after a while. Not particularly bad, but if it's the cause of my feet going numb it will have to be fixed one way or another.

I expected Proofide to come with the seat so hadn't ordered any, finding it didn't come with it I'm now waiting for it to arrive - pretty annoying. Hopefully I can soften it up faster once that arrives.

I'm finding actually where the seat is now is perfect on the hoods or drops and a bit too far back on the top/flat bar. Lot's of butt support in the more aggressive positions... Can't win em all I guess. :)

Worst comes to worst it can go on my trail bike :)

Mark... the efforts of the warehouse when it comes to postage and handling is still pretty poor... Bubblewrap. Yes it costs money, but it is amazingly useful stuff.
