I've saved enough money from part time work to buy some clipless pedals. the two options i have are these;
105 5610 pedals
R540 Pedals
WHat have you used, and would you recommend? i figured if i got the cheaper set i could get a jersey too, but if the 105 pedals are significantly better, i'll stick with them.
plus those plastic parts on the cheaper pedals lokls disposable..

I just bought this kit from Cell, pretty affordable price and works well for me.
They are SPD though, so slightly different to what you are after.

I'm using them for commuting and MTBing...

Get the PD5610 pedals. You are right abt the PD-R540, the plastic clip will wear down over time, and need replacement. While the part is not expensive, you might have to find a shop to order them in for you.

In my opinion shoes must be purchased from a bicycle shop, not online.Wayfarer wrote:

I purchased Shimano R540 pedals and shoes (Merida) recently.
The only way to get correct shoe size is to try them on.
Different brands of shoe ostensibly of the same numerical size are not actually comparable in size !
Some brands are notoriously bigger or smaller than other brands.
A good price on a shoe is not a good price if it is too tight or too loose !

do you know what size in shimano shoes you are? if not i would not be buying online...
i would choose the 105 pedals cause they would last much longer and have heard they are fantastic value.

i bought the 'cheaper' ones on Cell bikes about a year ago...
i reckon the pedal is a bit heavy but its not that bad...
Doesn't look too bad, but i would def. go for the $199 'combo'.
Better shoe, better pedal...
make sure u get the correct size...
