I seem to recall it was only a problem with the warranty as the reason they wouldn't ship to Oz etc. It is a shame as they make lovely bikes at really good prices. Once my good warranty run runs out I think I will grab one... especially with their crash replacement scheme :D .

Like a small agent. Germany legals can be pretty tough and people have rights in terms of warranty (yes we do) so as they have the direct to customer business model then the agent is their for local issues be it a resource for local info (eg. providing shipping information that is correct), supporting with warranty and running advertising.

One of the legals is that where one company may have an approved product in their own country, even though there are actually implications selling abroad, they will sell and ship anyway. Perhaps doing everything by the book means that the lawyers have to get onto every detail and clear each country. If there is an interest, I think I still have a contact and can make a call and see what the latest is and if they have any projections when they could start in Australia.

Also, Canyon isn't the only mail-order type brand from Germany, there are some others that also rate highly in Germany, but are less known outside of the country.

I got my Canyon Aeroad about 6-7 months ago using the adressgermany account mentioned above, all up it cost nearly $1000 just to ship the frame here, including the gst. the company that they use for shipping bikes and frames is pretty expensive, I think they charged over $500.It is a lot of hassle and money to import a canyon and I'm really happy with the bike, beautiful frame, I've only seen one other in Melbourne. by the way I will be selling it in a month or two as I will be upgrading to a new frame

Every now and again I get excited when this thread gets a bump, because you know, maybe they'll start shipping to Aus/US again.

The email they sent through mid 2010 sounded so optimistic too.

thank you for your e-mail and your interest.

We are very sorry but it is true: At the moment, we do not ship to U.S. and Australia.

The problem are proceedings with insurance companys, different than the German or
European insurances.

We will tell you when this problem is solved and hope this will not last to long
anymore.

I now have some good friends living over in the UK, so could possibly work something out. But with VAT + shipping costs + warrantee concerns, I'm not sure if the balance still swings in Canyon's favour.

The funny thing about Canyon in regards to the "we do not ship to Australia" is that they dont even want to send me the printed latest catalog to Australia. As a result, i had to ask them to ship to an address outside of Australia.

Was drooling on Ultimate AL. Worried about the sizing tho... Luckily the country tat I was from do not charge any kind of tax/duty to complete bike but not individual bike parts.

looking at their 2013 range and converted prices, even if you do end up paying $700-$900 in GST and adressgermany forwarding fees it still ends up being pretty competitive and good deal, for eg latest 2013 model ultimate cf slx with ultrgra di2 and ksyrium wheels will probably set you back around $5000
