Does this compatability chart help at all?
If you've gone through two chains on the one cassette, then I would consider replacing both now. SRAM and KMC make Shimano compatible chains and SRAM make Shimano compatible cassettes. Litespeed Classic - 3Al/2.5V titanium tube set, Record 9-speed groupset, Open Corsa Evo CX
Alchemy Diablo - Columbus Zonal tubing, Ultegra 9-speed groupset, UltraGatorskins Gitane Rocks T1 - U6 tubing, Deore/XT groupset, CrossMarks
If you are on your second chain, then it is probably a combination of the chain and cassette, which would explain the shorter life of the second chain.
At the moment the AU is good, have a look at mail order from PBK and T7 or where ever. I've got stuff on ebay
My bike currently has a HG-73 chain (Shimano front chainrings and SRAM rear cluster) and I have just clocked 2,000km.
The chain has been oiled regularly, taken off and washed twice, and appears to be fine. All the km have been on the road and involved climbs as well as flats. Seems like I may have only another 1,000km in it ?
What you can do is replace the chain and if its still slipping after a week, then replace the cluster as well.
