Hi,
I am in the midst of building up my ultimate wet weather commuter using a cyclocross frame. I have decided on most of the components which will be Ultegra running gear with compact cranks. I have now begun research on wheels that would suit a cyclocross bike.
I would like to use 700c (29") wheels and tyre width of about 32mm to 34mm. The wheels will be used mostly for wet weather commuting and some trail riding. It has to be relatively strong and robust although I am quite light because the I don't want any buckles from potholes etc and be late for work. I would also like to keep the cost as low as possible so that means nothing top of the range.
Thanks,
J

Thanks for the link, the 29" wheels might be too wired for what I had in mind (28mm but not sure what the inner diameter is)
According to Sheldon Brown, I need something between 15m and 17mm inner diameter for it to suit 30mm to 35mm width tires.

You'll have no problem running 28mm tyres on a Dyad but anything smaller might be a bit tight. You'll also have no problem running a 35mm or beyond on them. Dyad rims have a 24mm outside width.silkishuge wrote:Thanks for the link, the 29" wheels might be too wired for what I had in mind (28mm but not sure what the inner diameter is)

Another good option might be Salsa Delgado rims laced to whatever hub fits in budget. What's the rear spacing on the frame? 130mm?

I've been eyeballing something similar. I was thinking Mavic A319 which can go from 28mm to 47mm.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will have a look at the Salsa website. Hmmmm, I have not thought about the rear spacing. I should check that. I am in the process of getting a cyclocross frame built so I should specify the width. Thanks for that tip.thirtytwospokes wrote: You'll have no problem running 28mm tyres on a Dyad but anything smaller might be a bit tight. You'll also have no problem running a 35mm or beyond on them. Had a quick look at the Mavic website and it seems like quite a good rim. Versatile enough for a wide range of tire widths. But for my purpose, the slimmest tyres I would use are a 32mm so probably not what I am looking for. The Mavic Open Sport might be better for me, but I would like it to be able to also accomodate 35mm tires.Baalzamon wrote:I've been eyeballing something similar.
