I am wondering if any one know what the difference is between the 5.2 5.5 and 5.9 Treks is there a frame difference or is it only groupset and wheels etc ??
and is it true that the Trek 5 series has alloy forks??
Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's full carbon, my wife's 4.7 frame has carbon forks - maybe you mean the steerer is alloy?Twiggy wrote:and is it true that the Trek 5 series has alloy forks??

I don't think alloy forks exist anymore in the modern road cycling world...Speedster wrote:I'm pretty sure it's full carbon, my wife's 4.7 frame has carbon forks - maybe you mean the steerer is alloy?Twiggy wrote:and is it true that the Trek 5 series has alloy forks??

You may be able to order the 5.5 and 5.9 in different geometries (pro or performance fit)
Otherwise the differences are grouppo / wheel set etc.
Cheers

I am planning to order a Madone 6 series tomorrow...Here is a screen shot of the colour options for the 6 series frame...you can also specify wheels, saddle, bars, tyres, groupset, cable colour bar tape etc...

i think it is the alloy steerer as mentioned in a reply
Thanks CoffsGal
I have had a look at the site
I would love the 6 series but
it goes abit beyond the price range
The idea of the sensors built in and the fact that the 6 series is build with electronic gears in mind makes it very adaptable for the future
It is a pain that you can only order from the project one site makes it hard to negotiate a good deal with your LBS
Thanks

But you can spec what you want to fit your budget, and have a unique 'custom hand built in Winsconsin, USA' bike to boot. Hopefully when you walk out the LBS door with your 5 or 6, you won't see another identical to itTwiggy wrote:It is a pain that you can only order from the project one site makes it hard to negotiate a good deal with your LBS
I saw in the paper yesterday that Boeing have just landed the first of their new jetliners made predominantly of carbon fibre based on Treks unique OCLV manufacturing technology
Trek make the best carbon fibre bicycle frames..... bar none

And one of the last few brands still making their own frames in house. I think that page needs updating though, it still says this of Trek:kukamunga wrote:Trek make the best carbon fibre bicycle frames..... bar none
"They are one of the most sought-after brands by U.S. dealers because of their strong commitment to brick and mortar bicycle stores (i.e., the brand cannot be sold mail order or over the Internet) and because of their dealer-friendly policies."
Not any more it seems.

Twiggy, even though you 'build' the bike you want on the Project One website, the specs you choose are are just sent through to your local Trek Dealer and they let you know the price, do final sizing, component choice and advice etc. You will still get to negotiate all the details and price with your local Trek dealer, or not proceed at all, the choice is yours. There is no commitment on your part to proceed with a purchase...Twiggy wrote: It is a pain that you can only order from the project one site makes it hard to negotiate a good deal with your LBS

Oh dear...I just can't decide on the colour...maybe I should get one for each occasion...wouldn't want people saying..."Tch tch, isn't that the same bike she wore last time... "Dave R32 wrote: Emma...is that screenshot the colours you are going with ?

Dave.
I was thinking of getting the white frame with white logos...could go stealth then...feel free to suggest a colour scheme...

If you are referring to the Project One site, then you can't actually purchase the bike through that site...only spec it and then purchase it through a Trek dealer.familyguy wrote:Not any more it seems."the brand cannot be sold mail order or over the Internet"

Just kidding. Actually I'm a Flash developer so I'm very interested in applications like this. Unfortunately this one is not very good. Mainly cause it's terribly slow. It seemed like anything I did resulted in a 10 second wait, then a download. Still, it's the best so far. I really need to build one (a bike designer, not the Trek). I'm sure I could so a better job.

that is a very interesting read, also tells me that the guy at TMO sports who i spoke to today about the Time frames was not !! BAN ME NOW FOR SWEARING !! me
he did say that some parts are made in the chec republic and the bike is also assembled there
but the frame itself is still made in france and that they weave their own carbon fibres
May give them a bit more investigation
Thanks

I think one reason Trek are doing the Project One concept is to stop unauthorised internet sales of Trek bikes on line. And like some one else said, it still has to go through an authorised Project One Trek dealer".....the brand cannot be sold mail order or over the Internet"
