Italian threaded bottom bracket

Postby darrenbridges » Thu Jan 14, 2010 1:59 pm

G'day,

My 80s Moser steel frame that I'm building up with 10 speed Campag has an Italian threaded bottom bracket. I understand there can be problems with the bottom bracket coming loose due to both ends being right hand threaded. I've read various experiences and remedies including tightening as much as physically possible and regular checks, as well as using loctite to hold the threads.

I'm just wondering if there is a bottom bracket type that is best suited to counter this issue - the modern external cups for integrated bottom bracket or the cartridge style? It may be a deciding factor in whether to go for the new Campag crankset model or a slightly older one (I'm looking at Record to get the 180mm crank arms).

Cheers,
Darren
