$35 GP4000's

Postby im_no_pro » Fri Jan 22, 2010 9:01 am

At Ribble. Price is with discount if you spend over $87AUD. If you buy two, it comes to $87.20 and you gets them for a bees pecker over $35 each. Friggin bargain if you ask me.

Shame about last weekends Vet bill, I could be having all sorts of fun on Ribble atm :x

Good to see these are coming down in price again. For a while, all the GP4000S and GP4000 with Black Chilli were kept at premium prices, doesn't matter where one goes.

Did you look at the ribble site then? Michelin Pro 3 Race Folding Tyres are A$36.12 to A$37.34 (depending on colour) http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... ICHTYRF160

Pretty much the same price as the GP.

18% off all tyres on Ribble atm (although I think you have to spend over 50 quid/$87 to get it, same as with the conti's

not so much that as a better exchange rate I think. A year ago AUD$1 bought around 45p, now it's about 55p.

Isn't the Vittoria Rubino Pro a better tyre? It's cheaper too at $21.19 for Pro 2 or $24.83 for the 2010 Pro 3.

I've read conflicting reports on the GP4000's but seem to only find praise for the Rubino Pro.

I picked up some GP4000's too. Also picked up a couple of 105 chains for $22 a piece and a cassette for some ridiculous price.

GP4000s are used in the TDF... Rubinos? I'd be surprised.

A test conducted recently showed that in the wet the GP4000s surpassed all other tyres including some up there, pricey Vittoria Evo Corsa's.

Yeah, then $30 postage at ribble.

I bought from PBK just 10 minutes ago. 4 tyres at $47, use code TDU10 for another 10% off then free postage.

Same price in the end and I prefer using PBK anyway.

Ribble just quoted me A$8.70 for shipping.

Wierd - I just checked and it did the same as you say.

Mine was more though - maybe because I had also picked some lights (tiny ones).

Pardon my ignorance, but do they use clinchers on the pro tour?

Yes, two or three ProTour teams will use clinchers, highest end tyres such as Conti GP4000s or Schwalbe Ultremo Pro, though the majority still use tubulars.

[it's a conservative game and they're slow to adopt new ideas, though I believe not many teams resort to 'pot Belge' any longer]. Also, tyres are one of those things where it's very common to see logos blacked out or others glued on since riders really don't like some of their sponsored stuff.

Haven't used them myself, but general consensus seems to be. Great road feel and grip. Wear out really quickly.

As long as you got the grip down a fast descent I guess...

Wouldn't be surprised if they are on tubeless clinchers in 2010.
