tri bars

Had my first ride with profile design t2+ clip on tri bars that I recently bought.

Bit of mucking around removing some of the bar tape and moving cycle computer, but fairly easy to set up.Moved the seat forward about 15-20 mm and dropped the bars about 5 or so mm or 1 spacer.

I was surprised how comfortable the new aero position was immediately. By the end of a 50 k ride I was reluctant to go back to my nomal position on the hoods (have moved the seat a bit though).

The upper body is much more relaxed resting on the pads and feels easier to go faster in the comfy aero position. Thankyou triathletes for this innovation. Cant wait for my first tt with these in just over a weeks time.

I see you've got your computer mounted sideways on the stem. Doesn't this annoy the bejesus outa you?

It's the only thing stopping me from fitting tri bars to my bike.

Nice setup. I have read that group riding ettiquette discourages people from riding on tri bars due, as a rider may have less control when riding in the aero position. So thats discouraged me from putting a set on.

Did you have to change your saddle tilt to allow comfortable riding in the aero position?

Re computers ... I got a Sigma BC1606 ... and I can change the orientation of the mounting bracket to mount the computer the "right way up" on the stem. Its a convinient feature to have.

There is no such thing as not enough room I'm lucky I've got the Panoram V12 speedo that comes with a mounting for stem mounting if required.



Amongst other things, I've got a handlebar bag mounted below the touring bars, 3 headlights, a bell, an air zound air horn, friction shifters, and still have room for the DVD player.

As usual waiting on parts. The plan is to run a long screw through where the gear cables used to go. This then sticks out where the cables used to come out. I then run a nut inside the housing. This stops the levers moving totally.

The reason for using long screws, is so that I can mount some mirrors to the ends of these screws and have hood mounted mirrors. It's the mirrors I'm waiting on.

Replacing the two that I have which are in useless positions at the moment.

I find them good for stretching the back and taking the weight off of the hands on long rides. They are also good in head winds

It think I can average 1 to 2 kmh faster on my training rides for the same effort but the upper body is more relaxed and comfortable. I'm no expert though, I've only done 2 rides with them so far.

I don't think they're generally allowed in group rides, too far from the brakes if somene in front slows is the impression I get.

No. I've had a problem with my right arm/hand which was thought to be cycling related, so I fitted them to take the weight off of my hands. I also noticed that after touring really long days on an MTB that I got a back ache, which I relieved by leaning on the handlebars with my forearms.

Highly dangerous, so when I got this bike, I fitted the aero bars. Natural tourer instincts dictate that if there is room to hang something, it has to go there.

I did find on day rides in one section along the swan river when riding into the afternoon sea breeze, by using the bars, I could pick up a couple of extra km/h per hour in speed.

I've found that a second set of cable ties should fix the problem of "sideways mounted speedo on the stem". I.E. Put the speedo in the right position and tie 2 cable ties around the loops of the normal ties.

Thanks for those pics Parrot. I have been toying with the idea of getting a set, and have been curious to see how they mount etc.

Comparing your pics to Kev's is very educational. They look like a 'before and after' series!

I noticed before a lot of people have mounted their Sigma 1606L on the stem. I have a question, is it now pointing to the side? if not how to make it point straight?
