Will 10 speed triple front derailleur work on an 8sp triple?

Postby darrenbridges » Fri Jan 29, 2010 4:52 pm

G'day,
I'm looking at getting a new front derailleur for the current 8 speed triple crankset. The Shimano 105 FD-5603 is a 10 speed front derailleur but will this have any compatibility issues with the chain or cassette? I suspect being a triple would be enough but it's advertised as 10 speed and I just wanted to check if it would be ok?
Cheers,
Darren

yes should work. derailleur just does what it's told, doesn't know how many speeds. all shimano derailleurs apparently have the same lever ratio.

10 speed FD and chain is narrower. You may find 8 spd chain rubs on FD when using two inner and two outer rear cogs
