Few hundred bucks, maybe more if you get slugged a brokerage fee. I usually allow 20% for customs.

If anyone is interested - see if you can order the groupset components separately (and do two sub-$1000 orders) and work out if the total is less than the shipping + duty/gst.

I ordered my DA mech groupset in two orders from Merlin, if I bought a 'full DA' groupset it would have cost about $100 more than if I bought it as a package ($1600 from memory)... but I ended up customising it with an Ultegra cassette so it was actually cheaper than the DA mech groupset package cost. And no customs duties as the orders were $700-800 each and sent to different addresses - one to my wife to play things safe. Ended up being sub-$1500 landed.

I think it will work out to be about $1729 inc duty and GST but not inc customs brokerage. Bike Bug is $1799.

Check your maths...

Purchase price inc free shipping = $1367

Duty = 5% of $1367 = 68.35

GST = 10% of ($1367 + $68.35) = 143.53

Total payable to Aus Govt = $211.88

Total cost of groupset inc gst, duty = $1578

This does not include potential brokerage charges.

Also note that you may not have to pay duty as bicycle parts are not dutiable. However sometimes you might get slugged with it if the customs declaration form isn't clear about what is inside the box.

But in that case, if duty isn't applicable, you're talking a grand total of $1503.70.

Thanks. For some reason I thought duty was 15%.

Bike Bug have a price matching policy but they take into account duty, GST, freight and presumably customs.

If you can get them to match based on duty and GST (they might forget about or ignore brokerage) that's a REALLY good price for an Australian stock groupset! Worth sending them an e-mail, if you're in the market, for sure.

A plug for BNA and research into Australian Customs Duty and GST charges. That should help on confirming calculations.

Bugger. I need to somehow get the forum to auto-censor anything in this thread that includes the phrase "free shipping"...

And for any Aussie retailers who are running deals, all you have to do is get in touch with me. The big Aussie and UK retailers are proactive but most of the Aussies businesses are missing out.

Ribble have a Shimano sale on at the moment which makes their 6870 Di2 gear stupidly cheap. You can piece together a shift kit including all cabling, battery and charger for under $1050, plus it can all be ordered separately to keep it under the duty threshold.

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/product/t/di2

Alternatively you can get BikeBug to price match these prices and buy it all locally...

T7 on Fleabay has some hidden super specials incl:

VITTORIA Open Corsa Evo CX II Folding Road Tyre - 700 x 23c for $25.00

EDIT: ... aaand they've changed the prices and reversed my li'l purchases: "A pricing update was done this morning that caused a whole lot of products to be given the wrong pricing". Bad show guys.

You can buy the same lights here Deal Extreme for $80.16 USD with free shipping. I order stuff from them all the time, shipping takes about 2 weeks from order to arrival (except during Chinese new year, which took 3, but not during Christmas which took 1 week order to door :) )

But do Deal Extreme (overseas - Hong Kong ?) offer hassle-free warranty? I've heard they can be very difficult to deal with when something goes wrong. Local warranties are usually more reliable

I haven't bought bike stuff, but in the two times I bought off them It was very disappointing as regards delivery. On one occasion I had to get a refund through the bank as I had paid by credit card.
Impossible to contact, no Repley's and did not answer a registered letter either.
Never again will I deal with them.

+1 for me too, 3 weeks since I ordered a bike bell (they were the first place I found on google that had bells with wide brackets for thick roadie bars) and a phone holder. Holder came last week, no sign of the bell.

99 Bikes at Macgregor in Brisbane has a set of Easton EA90 SLX with 10sp Shimano freehub for $649.

Apparently their supplier is clearing out all their Easton stock...

Someone please buy them, I'm getting ideas! :)

EDIT - They've just advised they're 10sp not 11sp
