FELT F2 or MERIDA REACTO 909 with Ultegra Di2?

Postby BarryTas » Tue Jul 12, 2011 3:40 pm

It’s desion time.
I have been saving my pennies and i now a few month of the purchase. I just need to decide. Both bikes are from separate LBS and priced at mid 9K.
Both bikes will come with ZIPP 303 tubulars and speedplay clets

FELT F2
http://www.feltbicycles.com/Australia/2 ... es/F2.aspx with the original wheels provided for training
Or
MERIDA REACTO 909
http://www.merida.com.au/en_au/bike/201 ... REACTO+909 with the Di2 ultegra upgrade and SRAM S30 AL Sprints for training wheels
when do we stop for coffee???

My quick 2 cents:

Go the F2...

You are spending 9k on the Merida and getting Ultegra Di2  IMO, I don't like ultegra (non electronic) having ridden on it - it's heavy and for the same price you can get SRAM force... (I will admit Shimano levers are a lot better - as they are longer and easier to brake in the drops)

I for 9k I would insist on:

DuraAce Di2 / SRAM red
Zipp 303's

So the f2 wins ... (But I know nothing about the respective frames)

If I were you, I would get the new Cannondale, or a get a Parlee z4 ... At that price point, you could also talk to Baum and get a custom frame. Please whatever you do don't get anything that says 'ultegra' on it.

Personnaly don't like either.

Felt looks a bit plain jane and downspecs some parts, whilst the Merida screams at you.

Neither bike looks like a $9k package (including wheels) to me.

Mind you, it's your money. Spend away and enjoy.

And they're on special for the TDF. Around 6.5K, use the rest to buy Zipps = way better bike than Merida Reacto.

For around $9K i would be looking very closely at a Parlee Z5. Just my humble opinion though.

A $9,000 Merida? I read 9k Merida as a 9kg Merida - aren't they all?

Meh .. Di2 on Ultegra cheapens the whole "Di2" marquee in my opinion.
Kinda like if Best & Less started selling Armani.

I work part time in a shop that sells Merida and Trek so I might be a bit bias but I would defiantly go for the Reacto.

Not sure where you got the Ultegra Di2 spec’s from as Merida only do the Reacto in Dura Ace Di2.

It’s a much stiffer and responsive bike compared to the Felt, something you will really notice when you drop the hammer. That being said it does come out a bit heavier, mine comes out at 7kg race weight (mechanical Dura Ace and 50mm carbon rims).

I would guess any 9k bike with Di2 would be Dura Ace

looks good, what gruppo and components though?? website doesnt say

i've been quoted $3399 for a frame locally so i'd get a RED gruppo from Ribble ($1,396), 3T bars, stem & seat ($500) and killer hand built TWE wheels ($1000 to $1600) = $6300-6800
