I nearly didn't accept it but I quickly opened it while courier watched. Checked and everything was there and not damaged. Seems okay which is miraculous given there were gaps you could put your hand through. Order included a couple of tyres, new ergon grips and bars and longer stem amongst a couple of other little bits.

A shame Bike 24 can't do better than this because it's a great shop with an excellent range especially for touring. I guess in future if buying from them it would pay to be prepared to refuse accepting delivery in case it arrives damaged and open like mine did.

I did read that thanks Andrew. I've not had any losses with previous orders although damaged packing is common. All things considered I'll probably still use them but for peace of mind I'll be seeing what other shops can provide first.

Yes, I've had some battered boxes too, but no losses.

Since I get my orders delivered to a parcel locker there is no opportunity to inspect the contents before receiving, so I alway take a photo of the damaged parcel while it is still in the parcel locker just in case something is missing or damaged.

I guess I should send Bike24 feedback about the state of the packaging when a damaged box arrives.

I've had a battered bike box once, it had my rohloff grip shifter in it and you can guess what happened. Hole in box, and one screw for the shifter escaped. I had taken photos and emailed bike24 and then they sent me the wrong screw and then the right screw.

I had a damaged box which lost about $300 worth of stuff. bike24 palmed me off to auspost who kinda took it up with Deutsch Post who must have them chased bike24 because about 3 months later they refunded the value of the lost items.

It's a pain to deal with but I'm glad at least you got your money back. I always sign and then put the word UNCHECKED next to signature. A guy I knew who owned a global freight company in the UK told me to do that because technically once they have a "clean" signature as he called it you were pretty much on your own.

Good tip Leaf T.

Perhaps Auspost prefer the soft expresspost bags for a reason.

We receive deliveries from Germany every week and one the one hand, good packaging helps somewhat, on the other, something happens along the way, hard to say if it is DHL or Auspost who are trashing / crushing the deliveries.

I wish Bike24 would follow there own postage rules when sending an item back. ie in a "sealed box" Might have to remind them of this.

I am waiting for a Bike24 delivery. I'm not too stressed about how long it takes, just so long as it gets here in one piece. I just got a small Wiggle spare parts order and the box had had to be closed up by Australia Post clear packing tape (with Aust Post "Damaged Box" markings on tape). The folding top had completely come undone. Nothing was lost, tho I don't know how. I think those boxes Wiggle use are not taped, but self-adhesive folding sections?

c r c boxes have also arrived having clearly taken a severe beating and just barely intact. Are the workers at international freight organisations trying to show their disapproval of GST free OS purchases, or is it less focussed, general apathy? :?

It's arrived! 20-1-16. Ordered late Friday 8-1-16, dispatched 11-1-16. It's well packaged with strong-looking "Bike24" packing tape cris-crossed at both ends. One very minor biff to the carton. Looks like it had comfy trip compared to some of the traumatized boxes I've received from OS in the last 12mths. But well packaged too.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's the contractors Aus post use for final delivery. My last delivery was poorly taped but it also looked like the perfect sized hole to put a hand in and play lucky dip.

That's very fast. They have a great range of tyres and usually the best price. Shame they don't do a small items post rate but can't have everything I suppose.

Ordered a helmet 26 Oct. When it hadn't arrived by the following Monday i was shocked and saddened by these unfortunate turn of events. I patiently refreshed the aus post tracking data 5-10 times per morning, and again in the evening. After about 8 days i started searching the internet and found this forum. Panic set in and i emailed bike24 on the 9th day. There reply hit me like a bullet between the eyes.

"Thank you for your e-mail.

Sometimes it will take some days to update the shipping status. The shipment will be transported to the destination country and this will take about 15-17 working days.

We ask you for some patience and understanding."

"this will take about 15-17 working days."

"15-17 working days."

Only 4-6 working day left. :|

What is the panic? I've bought plenty of stuff from Bike24.

Some orders have taken a month (hence this thread), but recent orders have been much quicker. It will arrive in due course.

As advised, a little patience is necessary.

Apparently customs have been striking recently.

Considering the savings of buying from OS, I am happy to forgo the instant gratification. But sometimes the planets do align. I have had a wiggle order, std post, arrive in 4 days and just recently a ribble order in 7 days. It was sent express, unprompted by me. Previous ribble orders had been 3-4 weeks, which I am OK with.

Interesting thread about the dodgey boxes. I have received two orders from wiggle that had gaping holes, but nothing missing.

German Post DHL is not the Royal Mail, which for obvious reasons provides a high level of service between the UK and Australia.
Wiggle does so much business with Australians that it has its own bulk shipping arrangements.
So there's little point comparing with deliveries from UK sites.
Bike24 states shipping to Australia takes +10 working days.

I've had the odd discrepancy but it has always worked out well. You'll have to get that compliance sticker replaced now

I have used Bike24 for years and they are the most dependable of all the online shops I've used. Not the fastest, and shipping not the cheapest. But the best packaged and nothing has ever gone astray.

There is a backdoor to check the shipment progress using the DHL Germany website. But up to three weeks is not unusual.
