New B&M IQ headlight in the pipeline

Postby il padrone » Thu Aug 30, 2012 5:41 pm

There is a new B&M IQ headlight, the Luxos, coming out later this year that looks to have some impressive features - 70 lux (90 on floodlight, 140 for e-bikes), USB charging model, much wider panoramic beam. It looks like I may hold off any ideas of swapping to the old IQ Cyo now.

An interesting feature of this light is that it is the first dynamo light that I'm aware of that has a remote handlebar control switch, and the first to have a flashing function. It will be available in three models but prices are not cheap, from 119 to 179 Euro :o

Actually prices are to 199 Euros and sometime Autumn 2012 but somehow I don't think that means this Saturday. Was puzzled as to what a 'lenker-taster' is, is this something about switching modes?

Just got my Axa Nano headlight (had a wiring problem with shorts, now fixed and lo I can see the light) so not in a rush for a new headlight but will keep an eye on this model. Tanks.

Autumn 2012 is southern hemisphere Spring, but probably later rather than earlier.

Lenker-taster = handlebar switch. Switch on/off and choose modes via this switch. I think it is where the USB port is also.

the handlebar switch might be a bit superfluous. Unless people switch modes alot while riding.

I'd like a wireless switch for my helmet mounted ayups though :)

I like the idea of the handlebar switch.
USB port? - Ahhh it appears for power out
Have they still not got their English translation page sorted yet?
I wonder how many sales they lose due to that issue.

Remote switching makes sense for a fork crown mounted light.

Beam pattern looks nice - width is awesome; beam colour looks awful (but that could just be the photo; all the B&M tunnel beamshots look to have poor colour).

And I just got my Philips Saferide

Integrated battery version would be better IMHO.

I can easily turn on and off my Supernova on my fork crown no problem, so why take up premium space on handlebars

Whoa Im loving the look of this unit as well as its light throw.

Shame I only just picked up my Ayups. I wonder if these can be mounted behind road specific ultegra brakes?

It looks like the standard B&M mounting bracket, which I believe can be mounted behind caliper brakes. Personally, I'm a bit precious about brakes, so I've never tried.

I turn my fork crown mounted B&M light on all the time while riding, with "big" winter gloves. The way they have made the switch makes this very easy. Hence my initial comment, I have more trouble turning my ayups on. However, if I had to select a mode as opposed to just turning the thing all the way one way, thats a different story.

I like this feature:
Taillight Monitor
A control LED lights on constantly shows whether an attached tail light is working properly.
I always wanted it with the battery powered rear lights as they just died when the battery went flat. I use to always check while riding. Now, with the dynamo tail light, I don't check at all, but I am not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Me too. I've had the connectors fall off my rear light (that'll larn me for buying el-cheapo spade connectors) and some sort of indication would have good.

I'm liking these lights.

The Bontrager one that the LBS included is terrible - it has a narrow beam and is quite dim, even at full power.

More light for street and off-road!

September 5, 2012

Philips presents LED products at the EUROBIKE 2012

EUROBIKE Friedrichshafen - very clear: the bicycle lighting can be not bright enough for safe driving in dark ways. More light for each environment presents Philips therefore from August 29 to September 1 at the EUROBIKE 2012: the new Philips Activeride LED Bikelight brings all the off-road fans with nine times more light than any standard bicycle light safely through the terrain. It goes back to the Strait, the glare-free on-road mode of the Activeride lamp is used. Philips in the new black & white Edition presents a real specialist for the road: with a sevenfold greater light output than any standard bicycle light this is one of the brightest, approved for road traffic lights on the market Saferide LED Bikelight 80 in the new design. And so that the bike from behind is good to see the new rear light Philips provides significantly more light - and in the width: thanks to the innovative Lightring technology that provides with a visibility of 220° for a wider to 40° light distribution as any standard backlight - LED Rearlight and is perceived so by other road users much earlier!

Bright in the terrain, glare-free on the road: Philips Activeride LED Bikelight

The new Philips Activeride LED Bikelight real off-road fans the freedom returns to go when and where they want. The extremely bright and wide light box in its high performance LEDs ensures very good orientation in any environment with taghellem, Crystal-white light (5,000 K). Every branch and every pothole is at an early stage spied with up to 70 Lux (CA. 800 lm). With its shock-resistant (IK06) as well as water and dust proof (IP64) aluminum with rubber protection ring the lamp defies any extreme use. Thanks to the new Philips dual-beam optics 50 Lux switches the Bikelight with just a push of a button to on-road mode with a strong, glare-free illumination of road up to 50 meters. Ensures that new 3D handlebar mount, to the optimal alignment of the light beam flexible in all directions move which allows a quick, tool-free mounting of the lamp on almost all types of handlebar.

Motorcycle light power meets design: Philips Saferide LED Bikelight as black & white Edition

Whether in classic stylish black or white purist and timeless: the Philips Saferide LED Bikelight 80 in the new black & white Edition is the bicycle-style in safe hands. The biker is it anyway: corresponds to the light output of the two LUXEON power LEDs of lighting a motorbike with 125 cc with a tremendous brightness level by up to 80 Lux. Obstacles up to 60 metres away can be recognized so clearly and distinctly, without dazzling oncoming traffic while. Is the total lighting power just not needed, because for example enough street lights are available and it is rather a question well to be seen much energy can be in the city-eco-mode save. The high-performance 80-Lux lighting is here reduced to 20 lux, the battery power to up to eight hours more than doubled. Its sturdy aluminum body can be mounted easily with the help of the new 3-axis handlebar on each bicycle handlebars.

Better visibility thanks to the new Lightring technology: Philips LED Rearlight

With the new Philips LED Rearlight in stylish round design is the bike now also from behind much earlier seen. This provides the innovative Lightring technology, which thus spread the light, that it also side is clearly visible. The angle of Rearlights is approximately 220°. The new rear light is as Dynamo as well as battery version available with and without Flash. The Dynamo version works with all dynamos. The robust plastic housing and long-life high performance LEDs make unnecessary a maintenance of Rücklichts. The Philips LED Rearlight can be mounted easily on all conventional bicycles. A flexible clip system allows the different mounting options. An integrated anti-theft finally prevents that Pilferer mount the Rearlight just as easily again.

I've had one for a few weeks now. It's a great unit, beam pattern is excellent (a step short of awesome - there are some less-than-stellar nearfield artefacts, but great out where you need it), rugged, takes up a fair bit of bar real estate, moderately heavy, beam width is good (really only problematic on tight corners), beam colour is a bit too cool. I initially had battery problems (a dead supplied cell) but it's been fine since. Great value at about $100.

The (user) review on MTBR is an excellent one, you really have to read past the 3 star rating.

Just as good in my opinion is:

for dynamo and
http://swhs.home.xs4all.nl/fiets/tests/ ... ex_en.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
for Philips LED bike light (LBL), battery powered, with cutoff
Enjoy (if you havnt already) :)

I'm thinking that someone might be able to keep the more powerful battery version topped up with
an E-werk and cache battery  :?:

Dull chrome might be okay but anything shiny for the cowling might be annoying. Just trying out an AXA Nano headlight and noted that at around midday I'd get the glare of the sun off the shiny plasticky mirror finish on the headlight's body. I prefer blinding other cyclists with my headlight.

Just found this pdf from B&M with lots about the new light (and other light porn) http://www.bumm.de/fileadmin/user_uploa ... 012_GB.pdf. I like that you get 70 lux but can hit a switch for a 90 lux flash. The connection from the remote into the headlight looks a little klunky but the real empowerment of this headlight is all in the remote, so the high beam button, the USB charger, rear light monitor. Why would you buy the basic model?

Star Bike has the B&M IQ2 Luxor headlight available for preorder (but maybe not going to be the cheapest) with an expected stock arriving 26/11/12. Peter White Cycles mentions these and says December.

It has an in-built cache battery as well:
Integrated lithium cache battery
This additional energy storage unit is used for peaks of demand as well
as charging. Recharges continually when cycling. The charging status is
indicated by an LED inside the handlebar button.
