Whats it worth? Cervelo Soloist 2006 Model
Postby leximack » Wed Apr 09, 2008 1:29 pm
i am looking for a new bike and looking at some options
I am talking to a guy at the moment from another forum who has a 2006 model Cervelo Soloist, its got an alloy frame (black with white writing), kysrium (sp?) wheels, full dura-ace group set, apparantly done approx 5000kms, it was his wifes bike and no longer being used due to new baby (so he says), i think its the right size for me but would have to check. He has sent me some pics and it is in excellent condition. He is asking $2500, does this sound like a good price? i have googled and the frame alone is worth $1600 (brand new) and his has decent wheels and dura-ace all round (cranks/brakes/shifters etc).
So does this sound alright and approx how many km's should dura-ace parts last (assuming looked after correctly), i dont want to have to change the drive train after a few months. He is happy for me to have it inspected by a local bike shop if i want to.
he will not budge on price so want tos ee if its worth going to the effort to have a look.
I will try and post a pic

Try eBay and search for completed auction of this model and see what you get.

The Soloist is full alloy and relatively rigid - quick, but a bit harsh to ride.
They look dead cool in the flesh, don't they?
Alchemy Diablo - Columbus Zonal tubing, Ultegra 9-speed groupset, UltraGatorskins
Gitane Rocks T1 - U6 tubing, Deore/XT groupset, CrossMarks

If it doesn't fit, then it's $2500 fully wasted.LuckyPierre wrote:$2500 is a good price - as long as the bike fits you. Otherwise, it is a reasonably expensive mistake.

As for the ride, I have actually heard from owners that it is not harsh, but a very smooth ride. One of the very best for alloy frames. It's amazing how different opinions can be out there.

I am hoping to have a look at it on Sunday then will make up my mind what to do.
There is heaps of models to choose from at this price point, both new and 2nd hand.
Too many options, i have plenty of time though as this is my weekend funbike, i have a few bikes already so not losing any riding time by taking longer to purchase.

How tall are you? I am making allowances for the fact that the photo has the bike leaning back slightly but that looks like a seriously small frame for a 54. My Lemond is a 55cm frame and I'm 180cmleximack wrote:its a 54cm frame, according to the cervelo site this is suitable for my height.

The girl in group ride gave similar feedback regarding ride quality to these bikes that sogood has heard after test riding carbon bikes including the well reviewed Scott CR1. It's just too easy to say all alu frames are harsh and carbon are smooth.
