Re: First roady $1300-1800Buy the bike with the coolest paint job, at your price range, its very hard to buy a bad bike, some may be aimed at a different market to you but that doesn't make them a bad bike.
Tell us what you want to use the bike for, your flexibility and/or any back injuries. We should be able to steer you in the right direction with this info Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can? - Sun Tzu

Re: First roady $1300-1800I was in a similar boat 12 months ago. I ended up getting a full carbon (mixed) 105 spec bike at the lower end of that price range. The things that swung it for me (in no particular order) were: colour, cassette range, crank length (for my frame size) and weight. You have to compromise at that price point and I ended up with crappy wheels and brakes/cranks (mixed spec) but I've since upgraded the wheels, rubber and saddle. I've been extremely happy with it and I've probably tripled my weekly riding hours since buying, so it was a good investment for me.
