Inner soles for carbon cycling shoes?

My carbon soled cycling shoes are ever slightly too roomy, so I'm thinking of putting an extra inner sole under the existing ones, or replacing the existing inner soles with slightly thicker ones.

Thinking I might need something quite hard/stiff and yet still comfortable, so that pedaling energy is not absorbed into the inner sole which would defeat the purpose of having a stiff carbon soled shoe in the first place? Or are standard shoe inner soles OK?

Methinks ideally you require a pair of shoes that actually fit your feet. I'd not be messing about with shoes a size to large if you're intent on some serious pedalling.......... however......

Wear a second pair/ thicker pair of socks

The shoes are the right size lengthwise but I have a very low foot, so just want to make the shoes a bit snugger height-wise. A second pair of socks would work but maybe too hot in Summer.

If that's the case then I'd begin with inexpensive supermarket insoles which you can custom trim to fit your shoes. If you want more fil then opt for a sports insole which has more bulk.

You won't suffer any power transfer losses with the addition of an extra layer of insole.

Agreed, Specialized are about twice the thickness of my stock sidi soles.

Generally, you are not going to need different thicknesses in your insoles unless you have an agressive difference between your legs, you'll just exacerbate future problems by not letting you feet adjust and strengthen to differences naturally. Insoles are great, but you only really need a decent heel cup. The best brand in Superfeet as they are build to last for long than most cycle specific insoles, so go with the black one for a medium arch (which I ride with), or yellow for a high arch.

I'm currently testing a pair of G8 innersoles for BNA.

Big difference with them over any others is the adjustable arch support which is fantastic, but really needs a podiatrist to set up properly.

I'll be submitting the writeup in the near furture.

They are not cheap though, but are very good quality
