Budget is $850, New or used.
Got my eye on ebay and gumtree for used bikes but whats good in that region brand new?

Have a look at cycling deal or cell bikes. I just bought an mbk branded bike from cycling deal and it has been fine on its first couple of hit outs. Good spec for the 650 I paid...

Edit: I have also had success buying runout deals off bikeexchange as mentioned by the previous poster
