Yep, I should have included that fact in my OP.

Try Bicycle Express in Adelaide. Biggest bike shop I have ever seen and they had stock the last time I passed through

New version "coming soon"

Just a quick heads up that the likely reason that the Red Zone 4 is listed as out of stock is that a new version is imminent.

David Bastian from NiteFlux posted on 4 October on Adelaiade Cyclists:
We are making a new version that is optimised for seat-post use. it will be a different shape and made of different materials. It will be even easier to see from all angles, will have a longer runtime and be all-round better for seatposts. We will continue to produce the current shape version for backpacks (although this seems to be the minority use for this light).

This new version is 95% finished and is with the tool-maker for production tooling right now. We are encouraging anyone who has problems with their light from seatpost use to wait for the new version which will be out soon.

Just wish they could make a version that is 'optimised' for 50mm rear rack mounts :|

Damn I'm gonna have to get myself one of these, too.

Current version is great, but I do find the lack of a seat post clip annoying. Sadly I don't have the macgyver knowledge to put one together.

Those holes in the casing - were they already there or did you put them in? And they are 24mm apart. Are there similar holes at the other end? If so how far apart are they in the other axis?

Only one set of holes and they are there as standard to hold the standard clip on.

Ah, OK. Well maybe I can make a 'conversion bracket' to bolt onto the light then connect to a 50mm rack mount

I have mine mounted quite successfully with the supplied strap.

That's all good, but I want a bright tail-light to mount on this sort of rack. Rack mounting ensures it's visible to traffic no matter what is carried on the rack. Bolting it on makes it reasonably theft-proof.

Pretty simple, just drill a couple of holes where you have the top light mounted.

She'll be right. I know what sort of bracket to make up, and rather that than drilling extra holes in the steel Tubus rack. And I can swap it to other bikes with the same spaced rack mounting-holes.

Now just need to find a supplier for the light. Searches show lots of reviews, videos, testing and Niteflux's own webpages, but no-one seems to be selling it :? :(
