Hopefully this isn't old news, but look what I found... discuss!

http://www.makestudio.co.uk/sites/beta/ ... cling.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If the site gets pulled I've screencapped it too. Depending on your screen / browser window size you may need to either make your browser wider, or if you don't have the real estate on your display, use control and the minus key (-) or apple key and the minus key. That'll zoom your window out.

Looks like they have bluetooth so you can drain the battery on your gps and your phone even faster

The 510 also is somewhat larger than the compact 500 which doesn't take up much real estate on the bars/stem.

I don't need the touch screen on the 800/810, but I like the bigger screen on the 510, and the potentially clearer numbers.

Just gotta work out the issue re v3.0 upgrade and how to get graphs. Too busy riding atm to fuss too much though :D

So this is potentially the 900 that has been rumoured but is now the 810

I was thinking about buying a 800 later in the month, now I might have to hold out for this one!

Mmmm...the 510 is *almost* big enough for maps?? Haven't kept up to speed with all the rumours so not sure if it may get them? I'd upgrade from my 6 month old 500 for a 510 if it had maps as it's not too much bigger.

Let me know what you'd want for your 500 if you do decide to sell :-)

Quick google on Garmin Live track
There is a garmin fit app on both android and apple
Both apps are $0.99
Then there is either a montly or annual fee $1.99 a month or $20.99 annual
So the garmin 510/810 will stream to the phone via bluetooth?? More battery drain then on both the Garmin and Phone then.
And this live tracking can update facebook/twitter as well.
Talk about privacy... No way I'll be using that feature.

^^^ It's funny how much Big Brother conspiracy theory has been out there for keeping the Government out of your life, yet people are voluntarily giving all this information away to private companies who have no interest in you beyond your credit card?

I guess that the argument lies in the fact that if people want to opt in, they can, and they can choose what data they want to share.

Having the choice of both opting in and when tracking occurs is a subtle, but major difference.

Personally, I don't really have an issue with sharing my rides amongst a select group of friends / riding acquaintances. And as long as strava don't use my data to identify me, personally, that's cool too. Facebook is the same, I have select bits of information about myself, maximum privacy, and post inoffensive sarcastic statuses to my hearts content.

Of course there are idiots on FB (and strava) that post EVERYTHING for the world to see. But hey, that's the beauty of choice.

I am totally opposed to the government (or any other entity) having data on my whereabouts 24/7. It's not like I've got anything to hide - like most of us, i lead a pretty boring (but fufilling) life - but where do you draw the line, you know?

The live tracking feature seems very interesting. Could also act as a safety net for those longer rides where people might not be as frequent. I also like the weather update feature but then again you can usually see what's coming by looking up, wind and temperature changes.

The tracking option could be really great in the racing world. Not so much for the professional teams as they already have more available but for smaller type races, the viewers road side to the folks at home watching on tv. Sort of similar to whats available in motorsport where you can see track positioning, where each car is, time gaps, top performers etc.

Live tracking is available to most people. It's called "Find my IPhone" and works well even whilst on the move.

Horses for courses but I can't see what the 810 will give me over a 800 except a better resolution screen (maybe).

Btw, apparently the LBS knew about this when I questioned it yesterday but weren't allowed to divulge the info.

Explains why many online stores have had 30 percent plus off the current garmin range.

Hi Rob,

Very tempted, BUT I'd want to know what the likely remaining amount will be so that I can determine whether it is worth it or not.

Is there any guidance of what the RRP (or actual end price) will be ? For the 510 and 810 (base unit & performance bundle) ?

Another question is, that the HRM for the 500, I presume that will work with the 510 ?

Pricing is not official as yet, however history of Garmins price structuring when new models are announced is that generally the new product will be in the vicinity of the previous models RRP that it is replacing.
The RRP of the Edge 500 bundle when it was announced was $399. The non bundle 500 was $299. Edge 800 Bundle RRP is $649 and the Edge 800 non bundle is $499.

We should be able to announce exact pricing tomorrow.

All existing Heart rate monitor straps/transmitters and speed/cadence sensors will be be compatible with the new Edge 510/810.

Having just bought an Edge 800 (+ bundle for < $400, yeah!) I was worried about being quickly outfeatured by the next Edge range. Glad it looks like it is only social networking stuff. Meh. I do use strava etc, but USB after the ride is fine by me. If I want real time tracking I can use my phone anyway.

I can confirm that Edge 810's will be the first to arrive with an expected date of early next week. (may even be end of this week)

Edge 510's will be late Jan/early Feb.
