Hey guys, my LBS offered me $4600 for a trek madone 5.9 2013, which is about $400 off. It comes with Bontrager Race Lite Wheels. SPECS:

MSRP $700
1,500 grams/pair
23mm wide OSB alloy rims (622x17)
Nail head spokes and stacked drive-side lacing
Bontrager designed, sealed cartridge bearing hubs with 3-pawl drive mechanism
18 front and 24 rear 14/15g bladed spokes with Alpina locking alloy nipples
Includes Bontrager internal-cam skewers, TLR rim strips and TLR valve cores
Compatible with both Shimano and SRAM 9/10 spd and Shimano 11spd cassettes
Campy compatible with free hub part number 420390
Compatible with both traditional, TLR and road tubeless clincher tires
No rider weight restrictions

So, i was researching these wheels, and many say to try and upgrade to these, The bontrager Race X Lite Wheels. SPECS

MSRP $1,000
1,480 grams/pair
23mm wide OSB alloy rims (622x17)
Locally reinforced spoke nodes reduce rim weight without sacrificing strength
Bontrager designed hubs with DT 240 star ratchet internals, nail head spokes and stacked drive-side lacing
18 front and 24 rear DT 14/17g bladed spokes with Alpina locking alloy nipples
Includes Bontrager internal-cam skewers, TLR rim strips and TLR valve cores
Compatible with both Shimano and SRAM 9/10 spd and Shimano 11spd cassettes
Campy compatible with free hub part number 276362
Compatible with both traditional, TLR and road tubeless clincher tires
No rider weight restrictions

So..... My LBS said, hed give me the bike with the better wheels for $4800 Still, it is 200 dollars off a bike, and getting a 300 dollar ("Better") wheelset.

Do any of you think i should consider spending the extra money???? i have no experience with wheels whatsoever, just from what i gather, its better to have parts made by a company rather than just stock standard stuff i. DT SWISS, the Race X Lites are really tempting with the DT240 Hubs....

A friend of mine has a set and they are a great wheeled. Quite stiff and light but definitely a race day rather then a everyday wheel.

DT Hubs are some of the best on the market.

There's not much of a weight difference for the price difference and the cheaper wheels will be sturdier due to the wider diameter spokes. I personally would go for the cheaper wheels which should prove more durable, especially if you're a heavier rider. In any case, the 23mm wide rims are great. I built a set and found they corner better and you can run lower pressures (by 10psi) which produces a more comfortable ride.
