Pedal Wrenches...

Postby HoldYaLine » Mon Jan 14, 2013 10:13 pm

Hey guys,
just bought this pedal wrench yesterday and i have had problems getting it to fit on my speedplay zero stainless...

But I have this other bike, and it snaps in easily

I am almost 100% sure its a 15mm thingo and i am almost 100% sure the other side says something like 16/9

I have read that 15mm is the universal size for pedal wrenches. what is going on????

Pretty sure the 9/16ths side is a BMX thing...

9/16" is the size of the thread, standard on all pedals.

BMX pedals for one-piece cranks (ashtabula) are 1/2" dia axles.

The 15mm refers to the distance across the flats of the spanner. It is for pedals with 9/16th threads (to fit multi-piece cranks such as you find on most bike shop adult bikes).

The 9/16th spanner fits pedals with 1/2" threads (one-piece cranks, some cheapos and kids bikes).

You would think the 9/16th spanner would fit a 9/16th thread type pedal but that would be too logical. :)
