705 or 500

I can get a used 705 with premium hrm and cadence for around $200 or $270 for a brand new 500.
Pros and cons of each? Is having gps mapping worth it? what is the better deal?
help please?

With one of these I'd be inclined to buy new.

Also, GPS-mapping isn't really an issue on a bike, in my honest opinion, unless you go well off the beaten track.

cheers

I used a 705 on my last TDF, the mapping was really handy as I am always riding on new roads... especially if you are looking after the stragglers and need to find easier detours. It worked really well... but it was really slow to get going and to do stuff with. But then they are pretty old now and the 800 which came after it has now been upgraded as well... so they are 3 generations old now. Still nothing wrong with that though.
500's are pretty nice too... personally for me I would prefer one with maps, but then in Australia you don't have as many road choices. When I have the spare pocket money I will get a mapped one.
