Replace stem boltsThey're rusting on my Roubaix SL2 2011. How do I find out if they are M4 / M5 etc, and the length that I need?
Re: Replace stem bolts
It would be a pretty safe bet they are M5, but they cost bugger all anyway so if in doubt order both. Take one out and measure the length. Then get on to Bolts Nut and Screws Online. They are based on the Gold Coast and their service is excellent. Get the stainless steel screws so they don't rust again. They are so cheap I have felt guilty about the size of my order and bought extra screws to pad it out a bit. Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...
Re: Replace stem boltsmuch appreciated and thanks for the link!
Re: Replace stem boltsTread carefully, tensile strength of stainless is lower than that of carbon steel. Torque requirement will be lower, and so will the clamping force.
I ride, therefore I am.

Re: Replace stem bolts
I need some of those. How are they measured? The entire length or the length of the thread?
Re: Replace stem bolts
Traditional way of measuring bolts is from the end to the shoulder - ie the entire length except for the head. I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought "you're not fooling anyone, you know"

This is the sort of stuff that everybody needs to know, thanks again Twizz. Shaun ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.
