I note Merlin cycles have a great price on the new DA 9000 C50 clincher (gee that's a mouthful) and wondered if there any opinions on how good a deal it is compared to similar wheelsets, both for rim depth/shape and weight? After paying GST I think they should come in at A$1375 delivered. Hit me with your thoughts?

I am 90kg so no lightweight and I mainly ride criteriums and moderate climbs. I subscribe to the aero is better than weight argument.

Merlin put their price up on the C50 clinchers so I am back to the drawing board. Cycling Express have them but you can't add them to your basket for some reason :?

I have a set of C50. and a set of the RS80's as well. The C50's are faster on the flats but the RS80 i find climb better. I wouldn't of beleived it till riding on the RS80 for a while and then stick the C50's on for a long ride.

Out to highfields i find the C50's get going better.

Thanks Matt. Are the RS 80s lighter or just feel lighter climb on?

Hmmm, lighter might also mean more prone to me busting something. I think I will pull the trigger on the C50s.

Get a power meter and ride up grades instead of buying 'upgrades' that really make no difference at the end of the day.

Its mostly just marketing hype. I worked in the industry. Ive never had a drivers license. I will bang out the same wattage up Norton Summit with the latest DA wheels as a 100$ pair of shimanos. Maybe 4-5 seconds quicker over 15minutes. Srsly, get a power meter and you will understand what the fuss is about.

You can get the RS80 (Ultegra) C50's for $700 from Planet X bikes. Meant to be same wheel, different hub. Might be worth checking out.
