Colour Choice of Hubshi.
i am currently having my wheelset custom built with alchemy hubs. i want you choice in colour of hub to suit the celeste bianchi xr frameset. i have a choice of silver, black, red (see link below): http://fairwheelbikes.com/alchemy-elf-f ... -1191.html the rims will be enve 6.7 (without or without decals) and cxspeed or cxray spokes... your thoughts would be appreciated on the colour choice of hubs. here is a photo of silver hubs on similar rims... http://www.flickr.com/photos/ligerowhee ... /lightbox/ black on black.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/ligerowhee ... /lightbox/ choice of spoke colour would be good to know as well.. krank Last edited by Krank on Tue Feb 19, 2013 7:59 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Colour Choice of HubsRigorous laboratory tests and numerous race results show that red hubs are faster, except in cross winds.

Re: Colour Choice of HubsStraight black CF rims?
Definitely the red hubs, SS spokes and red ano nipples for great contrasts. Performance wise, colour has nothing to do with it but if the best hubs for your build are available in red then why not go with an aesthetic that looks good. It's high flange (so called "bacon slicer") hubs that are dangerous at high angle crosswinds ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Colour Choice of Hubsblack.
now you need one silver vote and you're no better off, and we've wasted a few thousand pixels. just get the ones you like the most. the trouble with choice is you get choosers remorse. as soon as you choose the black ones, you wish you chose the red ones. maybe choose the ones you like the least. sorry mate, i can't give you a more serious answer than that. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: Colour Choice of Hubsthanks guys.
how about the white decals on the enve rims with red hubs and black spokes? fitted into a celeste frame? krank
Re: Colour Choice of HubsDitch the decals. If you can find something a little more low key then go for that. I'd rather people were to say "Are they...? Why yes, yes they are" than "Yawn, more of those Brandex wheels."

Re: Colour Choice of HubsIMO if your bike frame is mainly red then go black on black as per the picture u posted. If your frame has a speck of red then go red hub with black decal. If in doubt black on black.
Re: Colour Choice of HubsThansk guys.
Link for the celeste frameset: http://www.google.com.au/imgres?hl=en&t ... x=82&ty=83 Further thoughts on the hub colour to match this frameset? Krank
Re: Colour Choice of HubsStill red, need something to contrast all the black. Plain SS spokes and chrome nipples for the same reason.

Re: Colour Choice of HubsThanks Mulger Bill.
I will choose red based on your advise, as I agree - there is a lot of black. I often see many riders with black wheelsets (rims, hubs and spokes), and to me they look like dull socks. How do u think the red will contrast with the celeste frameset? Krank
Re: Colour Choice of HubsAll metal bicycle components should be silver.

this is true
Re: Colour Choice of Hubs
Tradition. On the right bike, all shiny silver looks amazing. Not so much on funky shaped CF frames with multilayered graphics IMO. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Colour Choice of Hubsthanks guys.

Re: Colour Choice of HubsNow if you could find hubs and nipples in a close enough to Celeste colour....
Gonna look awesome Krank Shaun ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Colour Choice of Hubsthanks mulger.
Enve rims all use internal pillar nipples. unfortunately, the hubs i want do not come in celeste.. anyway, i'll go with the red hubs and black cx-ray and cx-speed spokes.. krank
Re: Colour Choice of Hubsok, just booked in my wheelset build:
Enve 6.7 tubular, black decals. Alchemy Elf/Orc UL, Red, Campag (with ceramic bearings). Sapim CxRay spokes, black. Sapim CxSpeed spokes, rear drive side, black. thanks for your help. krank

Re: Colour Choice of HubsI know its too late but I cant see the red working with the black and celeste of the frame.
Silver hubs would of been my choice. Cheers Dave.
Re: Colour Choice of HubsAlso too late, but Chris King hubs are obviously similar or better in quality/performance, and have a vast color array...
Colors R45 hubs are available in ten anodized colors, Black, Silver, Pewter, Red, Navy, Green, Gold, Mango, Pink, and Brown. ![]()
Re: Colour Choice of Hubsthanks guys.
still not too late. i have placed the order, but nothing built yet because i am waiting for the new 2013 hubs to arrive - in april. why is chris king hubs better than the alchemcy? what colour woudl you prefer with celeste? krank
Re: Colour Choice of Hubs
Some would say the CK R45s are better built, more reliable, and better lateral stiffness... From memory the Alchemys are lighter however? Personally I think the difference is probably negligible, but there are plenty of comparison threads on WWs etc.. Colour? Hmmm pewter or mango I rekon!!!
