Road shoe: specialized swork vs bont vaypor

Hi forum,

Currently using Sidi genius 6.6 and it's giving me hot foot and numb toes on hard and long rides.

Have added some specialized insole without much improvement.

So am looking for alternatives and have currently narrow it down to the Specialized S-Work and Bont Vaypor.

Would love to hear opinions from anyone who's experience the same or tested a similar set of shoes side by side.

I've used both over the past couple of years. Both super stiff and light and good for the wider foot.

For me its the S Works, just....

Yep!
Extreme Tech aren't too bad, not as wide as previous NW offerings, but still not as narrow as other Italian brands

Thanks for the feedback MarkG!
If I may ask why? Is it the fit/comfort/performance or gasp...the look, haha.

Hi mate. I found I could do 90+ks in the S Works with no discomfort, while the same couldn't be said for me with the Vaypor.
Looks of the S Works is pretty nice too!

I have bont A1s and bont vaypour XC. No issues what so ever, fit like a glove pretty much out of the box and then after only one heat mould I don't even feel that I am wearing them.

Also so stiff, you really feel the power when stomping on the pedals.

Another vote for Bont Vaypor but admittedly haven't tried the Sworks.
Once I got the right size the Bonts have been great, comfortable and super stiff sole.
If buying online and using the Bont sizing guide I would suggest going half a size larger than recommended.
I think the Bonts could be found significantly cheaper than the Sworks, mine came from Italy (via eBay) for around $200 delivered.

Haven't tried the sworks, but yes to the bont vaypor. Sold them, my feet were not suited to them. If your 2nd toe is longer than your big toe, forget them is my advice.

Shoes are very much a personal preference, same with saddles.

Threads about which are the most comfortable etc are pointless. Somethings you need to try for yourself.

One man's hush puppies can be anothers device of torture.

I would try moving your cleats further back before I went buying new shoes.
I get similar discomfort if my cleats are put under ball of foot rather than behind ball of foot.

This has been an ongoing problem for me. Thing is .. Because my feet are wide and high I end up in shoes that are too long. This is limiting how far the cleats can go back which could be one of the causes.

I tried on a bont rxxxl yesterday and it was wide enough to fit me in one size shorter than I have been wearing. Interesting...

Totally agree, Deon. Bought the Sidis online and look where we are today...

Have managed to try the S-Works both the new and older generation before I posted this topic, but just wanted to get more idea on what to look out for during testing, tho I suppose if it's feel allright would be a good start!

Haven't had chance to try the Bont. From what I've read, it's might not be an easy shoe to judge on first impression due to the stiffness and heat molding process.

Even trying them in a shop walking around they might feel alright, after 2hrs on the bike maybe not so much? I don't know that trial and error can be avoided short of finding a shoe in the right side & width.

The S-Works are damn sexy, I wouldn't mind giving them a go myself.

I'm a long-time Sidi user as they really suit my narrow foot but I've thrown out a few sets of them now after wearing the inside liners out while the rest of the shoe is in perfect condition.

The other thing I don't like about the top end sidi's and most the top-end shoes for that matter is all the plastic retainers, if you deck out they pretty much explode and parts arn't always easy to get plus you might have a pretty uncomfortable ride home. I think a top-end 100% velcroe shoe would be a good long-term shoe.

I hate changing to something different when you have something that works for you.

Fwiw.. bonts take weeks, even months to get "just right" even with molding and a decent insole ..

I have only molded my Vaypors once and they fit perfectly.
