Need to buy a new set of wheels as the old ones have cracks on the rim around the spokes. Have been thinking of the following:

Dura ace c24 9000
Mavic Ksyrium SlS
DT Swiss Tricon 1450

I can get all of them around the $900 to $1100 mark. Anyone with any experiences they wish to share? I am about 86kg and they will be mainly used for training rides in the hills. Would like something that will last and be reliable.

Has anyone ridden the Ksyrium SLS without the supplied tyres?

For your budget just go get some fulcrum zero's..

But if you must go with one of the above then the C24's would be my pick.. Only $727 (AT) Merlin

Unfortunately the hubs aren't very good as a search of the internet will verify.

Thanks for the reply's. Yes, I have considered Fulcrums, but can't bring myself to run a Campag product when I am running Shimano groupset (yes, I know that's not very logical). Also appreciate the website link, very cheap and may consider them. Although CyclingExpress are currently having a 12% off sale and would like to support an Aussie company if possible.

Agree with the comments on the Eastons, seems to be a lot of mixed reviews (I.e. either great or terrible).

Is anyone running non-OEM tyres on the ksyrium, and if so, does it change the feel and performance very much?

Do people know the max rider weight for each wheelset? Would people expect the Dura-ace to be a little more comfortable than the Ksyriums? Riding in the hills around Perth, and while the roads are good, they can transmit a lot of vibrations, would the Ksyriums be 'too harsh'?

For that amount of money, just find someone to build you up a set of custom wheels.
HED C2 Series Rims are good, if slightly expensive. If that's out of your range, IRD make good rims, as well as KinLin.

Chris King or Alchemy Hubs + Sapim CX-Ray spokes will probably be cheaper, lighter, stiffer and easier to service(meaning longer life)

The wheels that I am replacing were hand built, but I didn't chose the components, so that may be a good option.

What are the HED C2 rims like, being a wider rim than those wheels I have listed.

They are good. A bit expensive, I'd hate to think what they cost if sourced from Oz, but the wider rim gives a nice ride. Pretty easy to build up too.

The wider rim is really good. Especially when cornering.

You can get Velocity A23s which are the same width, less pricey and only a few grams in it weight wise between the two.

I had my A23s built up with White Industry hubs and DT spokes (round, not Aerolites - would have cost a few hundred more as they are expensive spokes) for $840.

Very happy. I was after the wider rim.

In terms of a factory wheel, I have narrowed my thoughts down to Mavic Kysrium. After walking around a few stores, I can get either the SL or the SR. Both are at a good price, with the SR $100 more. Would anyone pay $100 more to get the SR, when as far as I can tell, you just get a few carbon spokes to reduce the weight. Is there anything I am missing?

I was going to buy DA c24, but wanted the wider rim and to have them built locally.

You aren't missing anything on the SR.

I had Kysriums. Nice wheels. Problem free apart from screeching hubs (solved by hub service at Bespoke). My A23s corner noticeably better and roll a bit nicer - but we're talking nit picking on roll.

Everything you are looking at is good.

Sorry to Hijack but I'm in the exact same boat. I was wonder AlMac how your built wheels were going? How many kms have you put on them and have you had any issues? I am thinking about the exact same set up with the A23 offset rear rim, white industries hubs and DT spokes.
