Sold wrong inner tube ?

Postby deagles » Fri May 23, 2008 6:50 pm

I'm back on 2 wheels for the first time in about 20 years - and a few things appear to have changed - so I need some help please !!

I've got a flat on my hybrid. The tyre size printed is 700x35 - and I have been sold a tube that has a box marked as "700x18/23 40" (price tag says 700x19C 40mm).

Gut feel is it's too small. Can some please confirm if I've been sold the wrong size tube ?

G'day deagles

You can go a little too small but I wouldn't go that far. If it said 28/32, I'd use it, but I think that is definately too small. I can't see you having a problem exchanging it, regardless of who's error it is.

Yes, the tube is too small.

700x18/23 40 I would assume mean a tube that will fit a tyre that is 700C 18-23 mm width with a 40 mm length valve. The price tag: 700Cx19C 40 mm basically states the same thing (but saying that it will fit a 700C 19mm width tyre... which is within the range).

Regards.

Thanks to both of you for confirming my suspicions and thanks to vitualis for deciphering the last part of the numbers. I returned it today for the correct size.

700x19 is small, but will work fine. I end up using these in my 'cross bike running 35mm tyres most of the time as it saves me having to remember to have spares of different size of tubes. I do find them a little more prone to pinch flats, but no difference in punctures.
