Rudy Project RX clip ins

Postby TomBikes » Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:59 pm

I'm a little confused about the RX clip ins from Rudy. Are they just a blank frame that I send to my optometrist and get my prescription put in or what? Any idea of what that might cost? I like the look of the swiftys but are there any other alternatives?

Not 100% sure but my last rx clip (shimano) was just a clear "display" lens. You then take it to an optom so they can insert the right prescriptions in. Cost me $100 from specsavers.

Interesting product. I think I'd rather stick to RX because of the easy ability to change out lenses. I may also use them when I play hockey under my helmet, would be handy to have a large range of tints to easily change them about.

So for about $250-300 i can be set up with some decent sunnies with my prescription put it.

Yes they are just a blank frame. Price varies depending on the model of the clip in needed. My optometrist stocks Rudy Projects so I was able to order the clip in I needed straight through them and have lenses made up to fit. From memory my latest set of clip ins cost $90 + cost of lenses.

According to the Rudy site;

For our more technical sunglasses that cannot support a direct in frame RX, Rudy Project has created CLIP-ON RX optical inserts that can be snapped in behind the Rp optics lenses. Thanks to our patented ‘easy-in easy-out' system, our Clip-ons can be inserted or removed with ease. This is particularly useful when you want to wear your contact lenses or when cleaning.
