Real World Experience - Oppy vs Wilier

Postby HHawker » Mon Mar 03, 2014 6:16 pm

Hi All,

Am currently in the process of purchasing my first road bike.

Have been to most of my LBS and am leaning towards either an Oppy (probably a C5) and a Wilier Izoard XP.

Both are similarly priced (with-in $100 of each other) and both seem to ride well when tested.

Being my first roady bike I haven't got any previous experience to call upon when comparing the bikes, so am curious to hear from other people who have experience with either of the above listed.
Any experience or advise that may help make the decision would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Go the hot tempered Italian. This is purely based on personal opinion as I like the character of Wiliers.

Put "Oppy" and "Wilier" in the title of the thread and you're likely to get more responses. If specs and price are the same then go for fit and then looks.

Which one do you think you will look best on?
If you love it, you will ride it. Upgraditis is not a drug, it's THE drug.
Nothing, NOTHING adds speed like blinging your bike. And you have to LOVE it to buy carbon jockey wheels with ceramic bearings.

Appreciate the reposes so far guys.

On looks alone, the Wilier definitely wins. Those Italians have done a great job on the aesthetics of the bike.

Having been back to my LBS I'm now considering the 2014 Oppy C6 ($2,300 inc shoes, pedals and combo pack), the 2014 Giant TCR Advanced 2 ($2,159) and the Willier Izoard XP ($1,899).

I've now ridden all three bikes and enjoyed each ride. That being said, this will be my first road bike, so no real experience to draw upon.

Would still love to hear some feedback from those who have owned, or had any experience with, any of the above mentioned bikes - Be it good or bad.

Am hoping to pick a bike this weekend, at this stage am leaning towards the Oppy as it's the only bike in the mix with Ultegra components.

Thanks again.

Hi

Just wondering which bike you ended up with? I recently bought the Wilier Izoard which was my first road bike and ive been pretty happy with it.

Dont really have anything to compare it to but i thought it was pretty good value at $1800.

Cheers
