So I currently have a Giant Roam 2, but I'm now looking at getting a road bike. This will be my first road bike and I'm looking for advice on what type I should go for. And which brands are the best for road bikes. Since this is my first bike, I'm not looking at spending a large amount of money on this bike. Around the $2000 or less mark.
I do like to do long rides/charity, so I'm looking for something that is comfortable for long rides.

Hi mate, I'd be looking for carbon frame with something like a 6800 11 speed Ultegra groupset with some decent wheels. You should be able to find something around the $2k mark for that.
Maybe have a look at your LBS or through the bike exchange website and see what you can find.
If you are looking for budget bikes then the Cell Akuna is always fairly priced or if you want to go really budget where you can't really lose then the alloy framed Reid Falco advanced is a bargain at only $599 but you are probably beyond that.
Good luck.

There are a few specials around at the moment on 2014 bikes.
For example this one is I reckon a good buy: http://www.99bikes.com.au/merida-ride-carbon-95-2014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Carbon frame, Ultegra groupset, 11 speed for under $2k. The Ride frame is relaxed geometry for longer rides.
You might have to shop around a bit to find the right size because they are running out. 99 bikes only has SM and MD left.

Helmet $50-100
Shoes $50-150
Pedals $50-100
front and rear lights $50-150
bibshorts - $80-100 each
jerseys - $50 each
Then spend the balance on the bike. That would be about $1500 tops out of your $2000 budget, which should get you something carbon with 105 running gear.
OK, you don't need all that gear, but it will make using the bike that much nicer.
