Hi Everyone,
I've been commuting part the way to work when the weather allows about 30Km each way.
I own a bike rack that straps to the back of the car with 6 straps, its time consuming to use and you can't open the boot with it on.
So I've been putting the bike in the boot and the wheels in the back seat until Friday when I cracked it, when I discovered grease on my new jumper.
I stopped at the LBS on the way home and asked to see what they had in the way of bike carriers, I was thinking about getting a roof based system, but the cost was a killer.
After showing me the range of different carriers, the sales guy showed me the Thule 970 Xpress.
It carries two bikes and is by far the best tow-ball mounted carrier I've come across. It take about 5 seconds to install/uninstall on the car and the bike can be attached in under 20 seconds, is solid as a rock and I can open the boot with it on.
The only down side is it only take two bikes, but I will normal only be carrying one bike so its good for me.
There is a three bike carrier, but it has a more complicated clamping arrangement.
Anyone looking for a tow ball mounted rack should give one of these a serious look at.

I just bought one of these with my bike. Incredibly simple, and you can get them for around $129 (and as much as $179!). Nothing more to do than just clip it over the tow-ball, but only on cars without a spare on the rear-wheel.
