2018 Giant Cross City 1 Disc

Postby V17L » Thu Oct 26, 2017 11:25 pm

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help with some questions about the hubs on the 2018 Giant Cross City 1 Disc (also the 0 model).

Giant state on the specs that they use a sealed bearing but no more info apart from that it is quick release. I assume both front and rear are QR, not thru axial.

What I am really wanting to know is the rear hub 130mm OLN or 135mm OLN. Being 135mm OLN opens up the field for different hubs of the mountain bike variety at a latter date. I assume the front is 100mm OLN.

Another question is the disc brake mounts, will they accommodate tektro or spyre type brakes, if upgrading/changing at a future date.

The last of the living dinosaurs are the birds. I was hoping our feathered friend might be around.
cheers

All Q/R rear disc bake hubs are 135mm OLD, and front are 100mm.

The brake mounts are standard Post-Mount on the fork and, possibly, going by the poor angle catalogue photo, Industry Standard (IS) A-Type on the rear, which fits Post-Mount calipers via an adaptor, as supplied stock, although it could also be a Post-Mount, fabricated to look like an IS adaptor..... Meaning you can fit the vast majority of disc brake calipers to the bike. Flat-Mount road disc brake calipers will not fit, but if you choose to hunt out an archival IS A-Mount caliper (I don't believe any brake manufacturer still produces them), you could fit one to the rear (if it's an IS-mount frame)....

The stock brakes on that bike are Tektro. Spyre is another model produced by Tektro.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Not sure if the 2018 Cross City's are the same as past years but the 0 model was always a nice spec jump up from the 1 model and usually well worth the jump up.

Thanks Duck and Rodney,
Thank you for the great replies. And the 0 model does look nicer than the 1 model, in terms of better components.
