Ritchey Torqkey

Postby rocketeer » Wed Oct 22, 2008 8:59 pm

Just picked up today my Ritchey Torqkey and testing it now on my stem first before the carbon seatpost, and it seems to be going pretty tight without slipping or clicking whatever when reachiong the 5Nm. Now i don't know how tight 5Nm is supposed to be, so how do i know if the torqkey is working right, cos i don't wanna overtighten the bolts. How tight is 5Nm?

Tighter than most people think.

Hard to say if all is good without seeing it, but most people tend to be over-cautious when tightening bolts without a torque wrench. One of my seatpost clamps has a torque recommendation of 8NM. The first time I checked it with a torque wrench it said I had only been tightening it to 6NM. I was surprised just how tight 8NM was.

It will feel tight as with that tool you don't have much leverage. My torque wrench is about 8 inches long and 5-8nm doesn't feel much at all.
