Oval chainring

If you use a oval chainring on a road bike are you restricted to only having one gear on the front?

No I am using q rings on the front - 52/36 just need to adjust front derailleur to clear the larger diameter of the oval

I've been using Rotor Q rings for the last 6yrs = 53/39.
