Focus Izalco Race 2018

I'm looking at buying a new bike to use for racing and training. After a visit to my LBS, My best option seems to be a Focus Izalco Race r8000. I've only been able to find one review of the bike, and that was of the sora version. Does anyone have experience with an Izalco Race? I also can't find anywhere that gives a weight for the ultegra version, so if anyone happens to know the weight that would be helpful.

The 2018 Izalco Race frame is the same as the 2017 Cayo, according to internet chatter. It matches to the mm all the dimensions. Nice bike too.

Frame is excellent, the bike takes corners like it's on rails. The precise handling was the first thing I noticed.

Yep a ridiculously light bike. Dont crash it, they break easily.

The "Izalco" is the super-light bike from Focus. The "Izalco Race" is in the normal weight range for a carbon bike. They scale up the tube size with frame size too, too maintain equal stiffness from the small to XL frame sizes.

Thanks for the help, read some reviews of the 2017 Cayo and it definitely sounds like a great bike. Looks like the UCI frame approval code matches up as well. I'll see if I can do a test ride on the izalco race soon and maybe get the shop to weigh one as well, just to confirm.

Looking at the two frames on the Focus website, the Izalco Max looks to have a lower head tube as well. So the Race/Cayo is in between the endurance Paralane and the racier Max?

Not really - the Izalco Race gets you down pretty low; you can tell it's not trying for "endurance" geometry. It's going for speed, for smooth ride and precise handling. The Izalco Max is in another class of superlight top end racing bikes.
