Best Hardtail Mountain Bike Under $1K

Postby Pippin2026 » Mon Jan 29, 2018 5:02 pm

Hey all,

I've been a recreational mountain biker for all of my life and am currently in the market for what I would consider my first "serious" mountain bike.

I've done a fair bit of research online but only visited the local cycle shop. The local shop got me interested in the Giant Talon 2 (2018), the Scott Aspect 740 (2018) and possibly the Scott Aspect 730 (2018) although slightly over budget.

Before I go out and buy one of those bikes simply because my local store stocks them I would like to know your opinions on decent MTBs under $1000. I'm happy to travel to Melbourne to purchase a bike so most bikes should be sold there.

All suggestions appreciated :D !
Thanks a lot!

Mountain bikes are too much fun to take seriously. The biggest problem with sub $1,000 bikes is that the forks are unlikely to be anything special
It doesn't get easier, you just get slower

Thanks a lot for your response,

I've been looking at the Scott Aspect 730 which is only $100 over budget and has Suntour XCR-RL-R air/coil forks. Would you happen to know if these are any good?

Thanks a lot,
