Malvern Star Bike used by Aussie cycling team in Moscow 1980 Olympics

Postby Tleew65 » Tue Apr 10, 2018 7:27 pm

Hi
I have a Malvern Star bike which was used by the Australian cycling team in the Moscow Olympic Games in 1980.
It has all the original decals on it and is engraved on the handle bars.
It even has original tires on!
Can anyone give me a rough idea on what this bike would be worth?
Thanks any input would be appreciated.

Sorry to break it to you, but what you probably have is a Malvern Star Moscow 80 - nothing special and some pretty low end stuff. Some clues would be stem shifters & suicide break levers

Some pics would confirm
Anything you can do, I can do slower

Yep. Geoff Scott made the bikes for the 1984 games. Not sure what was ridden in 1980 but it sure wasnt Malvern Star. I can ask Graham Seers ...he rode the road race in 1980. He probably built his own, he is a master bike builder.

+1 for the above. I've seen a few of the Malvern Star Moscow '80 bikes floating around recently. One on eBay or Gumtree recently in shabby condition but listed for a few hundred $s.Not a high end bike if that's what you have.

Edit : Found the one I was thinking of...

$499 on Gumtree in Melb. Perhaps a fraction ambitious. Was a 'commemorative' sort of thing (cash grab) but nothing special.

Link a pic of yours via Imgur or something, just so we can dispel any doubts..

And another one on eBay at $250 from a hard rubbish/junk dealer, also in shabby condition.
