Gee.
Yearly Australian new bicycle sales are a million plus.
I'm involved in retail management from a technical point of view.
Bricks and mortar retail is a hard at this time
It needs to be a major clear thinking marketing exercise to survive.
I.M.H.O. you need to get presence in a Bicycle Megastore or Major sports store to survive in the current market conditions.
Otherwise think smaller.

Saw a Cell fixie on gumtree yesterday. Better snap it up, it’ll become a collectors item.

I bought a Cell Otway 8 speed road bike as my first bike two years ago. It got me into cycling regularly and it's still my main and only bike, though I'm tempted to upgrade in the next year or two. I would have been less likely to make the jump if it wasn't as accessible.

It's a pity to see them go.

I sold my Cell Team when I left Sydney, sad to see it go, was a good entry level roadie but the buyer will hopefully give it a new lease of life.

They were really kicking goals there with Dave Musgrave designing bikes for a while - saw more than a few Omeos around the traps and lots of Brunswicks of course. If they'd released a disc roadie it'd have probably been my next n+1

Interesting to find out what happened. Reading some posts and emails that people posted, their customer service over the last six months or so seemed pretty much non-existent.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe

I had a Cell SS300 flat bar, until it popped out of the bike carrier on Eastlink! Great little bike: light and agile, alloy frame, carbon fork, 3 chain-ring Tiagra was accurate. I miss it.

Anyway, I just did a search on Bike Exchange and one of the results that popped up was North Fitzroy Cycles. Seems to be occupying the old Cell premises and lists a couple of Cell road bikes. I have no idea what the relationship between them is. Buyout? Staff takeover?

I purchased a Lapa 3.0 which was the best 105 groupset road bike under 1000
Was meaning to go in a get a spare derailleur hanger.
Looks like I missed my opportunity

Bikes rides fine after 1000km

I went one saturday morning, they didn't open till 10am
I noticed one guy try to get in at 9:45am at the stanmore store, realised it was not open so walked down to 99 bikes
I told the cell staff member who said they couldn't afford to open earlier.

Late last year I bought one too.
Intended as a wet weather and smart trainer bike it's only been on the road a handful of times but clocked-up 2500km's on the trainer.
No troubles.
These"generic" aluminium mass-produced frames are badged and sold under a variety of brands names.
Chances are this is the same bike/frame with an identical hanger. From the picture it looks the same as my Lapa 3.0;

If the Polygon isn't identical then a little detective work should reveal either the same bike from another brand or a matching hanger from a specialist retailer such as this mob;

There is another good reason that the industry needs to settle on 5-10 'standard' derailleur hangers. Make them all look different so you can't mix them up and then stamp each with a number code to go with it. Need a hanger, drop into LBS and pick up an 06, it'd be so much easier.

Speaking of bicyclesonline, they are now formally providing information for customers and the website now directs to them.

For Cell Bike owners, the point of contact is the liquidator (as has already been mentioned).
1. How will warranty claims be managed for previous Cell Bikes purchases?

We recommend that you contact the importer of the brand for all warranty claims i.e. in the case of Shimano, you would need to contact Shimano Australia etc. For warranty claims regarding Cell Bikes frames and house branded products, claims will need to be directed to the Administrator of the Cell Bikes liquidation. Details can be found on the ASIC website at this link: click here

2. I recently purchased an item from Cell Bikes and have not received it. What happens now?

We recommend that you inform your credit card company or Paypal so that they can issue you a refund.

3. I have a Cell Bikes gift voucher. How can I redeem it?

You will need to claim your funds back from the Cell Bikes Administrator. Details can be found on the ASIC website at this link: click here

Well at least it looks like a reputable local store has bought up the pieces. It only makes them stronger in the marketplace.
BicyclesOnline have been gaining a good reputation selling Polygon bikes and taking on the established big names.

This highlights the danger of counting on, or factoring in a lifetime warranty with a bike purchase.

The Paramatta rd shop has been cleared out
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Lifetime warranty is worthless with most purchases. It intends to instil trust with consumers to purchase but the reality is that it usually have very specific limitations, a lot of exclusions and often normal use (and natural degradation) can render it void.

There are very few brands that offer genuine lifetime customer support - not free but for certain high quality items, the assurance that repair and replacements remain possible.
