The $599,00 Cycling Deal Hasa Tiagra 4700

Went out to Cycling Deal and bought one of their $599 Hasa 20 speeds.

Comes in a box. :


You need to assemble it yourself. Otherwise they will charge you to assemble it at the premises.
The frame comes only with the brakes, chainset and rear derailleur on. The bars are assembled and taped.
You need to know what you are doing - no beginner stuff.


I turned it into a flatbar - there are reasons for this. I happened to have a set of 4700 flatbar shifters and flatbar linear brake levers handy.


Took it for a spin.

(a) Continental Ultra Race 700x23 tyres - need at least 25 or 28 for commute.
(b) Chainset is 50/34, rear cassette is HG500 11-34 - too much differential between gears for a 10 speed. Needs a 12 - 28 or 11-25 cassette.
(c) Seat is too small for a larger rider - bike is a 58. Seat post is a cheapy spoiling the rest of the bike.

Rides O.K.
I swapped out the chainrings for 52/39 Rides a little better except still too much gap between teeth on the rear cassette.
Swapped the saddle out for a Specialized

Overall A lot of bang for the buck.
Continental tyres
Full 4700 groupset
Mavic rims with Novatech hubs.

You couldn't buy all the individual componentry for the price of the whole bike.


Meanwhile they have a few real specials. Near new bikes. Warranty returns or new bikes that were ratted for bits.

This is a Sora equipped new bike.


And the price for it is....



The Sora STi shifters alone are nearly that price.

Good way to set up a bike for a Indoor Trainer.

Ivan, can you give any insight to their sizing?
Their dropdown options are 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60

That doesn't match any number in the geometry chart:


I assume the six sizes correspond to the size options?

I bought a size 58.
The top tube is 580 and the seat tube is 580.

The head tube is only 160 and the forks have been cut - to almost “slammed”.

I’m 189 and 100 kilos.
Even with the flatbars I’m in a pretty aero position. With the drops on, the hoods would be pretty far away while very aero in the drop position.

Even with the flatbars, being in that aero position would be bit of a sore neck for my weight and post retirement age.

Having said that. It rides well. Better than the the XDS flatbar I had previously.

I ratted the 4700 stuff for another bike. The Hasa is 4600 flatbar now. I’ll probably use it on the trainer

Good way to set up a bike for a Indoor Trainer.

I’ve been using my Specialized on the indoor trainer. It’s been playing up since.
I’d rather use something I don’t have to worry about in the trainer.

I actually bought some old frames and was going to build a trainer bike up from these and the components I have lying around.
The problem is that the frames were early 2000’s stuff and the componentry using compatible enough

Wait until you run into their oem wheels. A wheelset for $200 is nuts let alone that it comes with tyres and tubes! I have 3 sets at home lol.

Make sure the wheel spokes are tight

Didn’t mention this is the assembly instructions.

I have installed a 20mm riser bar. Bike is much more comfortable to ride.
