Hi All
I've ridden a set of Pirelli Cinturato 70028c for about 1000km. They are now showing signs of fine white thread on the side walls. Is this normal for a relatively new set of tyres.

My rule of thumb is that the occasional thread isn't a big issue, so long as there is no cut and the sidewall isn't bulging.
It is not unusual on Conti Gatorskins and GP4000s, and seems most commonly to be the edge of the sidewall plies after they've been wrapped around the kevlar bead.

Leg goes up, leg goes down. Legs keep going round and round.

Oh, that's super common on a lot of tyres. Those are just some threads from the piece of edging fabric that covers the bead section of the tyre.Digwellboggs wrote:https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipM ... hVZkhGNXB3
You can just cut off those loose threads with a pair of scissors, it won't hurt anything. Sometimes I also wipe a small amount of Tarzan's Grip glue on those edges to stop them fraying further.

No it doesn't. As uart said above, it's the bead reinforcing layer shedding the odd string. It happens on a huge number of tyres, regardless of pressure. Snip the dags off and keep riding.RonK wrote:Looks like under-inflation damage to me.Digwellboggs wrote:https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipM ... hVZkhGNXB3
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

This is under inflation damage, probably "helped along" by some kerb hoppingDuck! wrote:No it doesn't. As uart said above, it's the bead reinforcing layer shedding the odd string. If you buy vulcanised tyres it might look like this
For completion, this is what over inflation damage looks like
