The original plan was to make it a geared bike, but he couldn't figure out where to run the cables

A bit vague on the tubing. Wonder if it's plain gauge...munga wrote:Dear munga,

Yeah, the bike has been on display in their basement workshop for quite a while, and looks like it's being sold by the shop's eBay account. Looks good jn person. Has been relisted a few times, started at $1000 a couple if months ago.Yankers wrote:The Fosters bike - is it actually being sold on ebay by Clarence Street Cycles in Sydney?

Must be good, they've used soft focus. Although some lens flare would be better.fletch62 wrote:Cheap Colnago anyone?

The 105 has got me confused.munga wrote:steep geometry and a rewelded downtube. interesting. not to mention 'rare' 105 groupset.
I have a 7-speed 500EX groupset in a box, waiting for the right frame to put it on. It came off a late '80s (fluoro yellow and turquoise fade over white) Malvern Star Triathlete.
All the information I can find suggests 500EX evolved into 105, like how 600 evolved into Ultegra.
But the existence of 6-speed 105 and 7-soeed 500EX kind of contradicts this timeline.

Well, I'm no Shimano expert but I well remember 105 first being launched in Evans Cycles shop in London UK (early 80's?) as the 'affordable' high quality Shimano groupset. You could buy the whole 12 spd groupset in a box for a very reasonable price with a choice of short or long arm rears. I was sorely tempted but very poor at the time having just got marriedbarefoot wrote:The 105 has got me confused.munga wrote:steep geometry and a rewelded downtube. interesting. not to mention 'rare' 105 groupset.

I thought the EX series stuff was considered just below the 'branded' 105 /600 level stuff and was mainly supplied as OEM to bike manufacturers? Quality always seemed much the same tho, just less polish.
Cheers

That black 105 is known as the 1050 group. It has a screw on hub body, so 6 speed doesn't seem wrong. I believe it'll be after the Golden Arrow, and before the champagne 105SC 7/8(after STI) speed group.barefoot wrote:The 105 has got me confused.munga wrote:steep geometry and a rewelded downtube. interesting. not to mention 'rare' 105 groupset.

Mate, if you were doing Shimano Drivetrain Extension for your HSC, your ATAR would be through the roof!QuangVuong wrote:That black 105 is known as the 1055 group. And I really only know of the 105, and 600 groupsets, as that's all I use on my bikes.

I love the golden arrow gear....its, well, normally bullet-proof like all 80s shimano gear....unlike that italian stuff.
