Always getting in the way
But if I was as low as a trike I would...

I do! On the basis it provides unusual movement and colour.
A few of the roads I ride on are heavily treed with narrow shoulders and high speed limits. Early morning/late afternoon shadows make visibility difficult, add to that a driver traveling at 100k with his mind on a dozen other things and I reckon I need everything going for me I can.
"I need to find a way to unscrew it quickly so I can use it as a whip on some of the WAyNe KERr'S that miss me by 150mm"
I know it can be annoying but it does seem to work.
Hmnn I think this whip idea has a lot of merit

Bents with flags
Postby Ricco » Tue Aug 05, 2008 8:29 am
Flag being used as a whip sounds cool, though some folks won't see it as a deterrent, kinky and all that, might not work for then.
On a more serious note, has anyone tried those streamer like bar ends seen on kids bikes, as a visable aid.
Have not used either, though see a need on my SWB bent.

Ricco!
I can just bear the ridicule of the flag! I doubt very much my person could with stand the onslaught of abuse the bar end streamers would attract.
On a more serious note a number of emergency service organisation employ the use of "electronic flares" these usually take the shape of strobe lights and vary in intensity. They would meet all our requirements in terms of awareness and are reasonably cheep
Unfortunatly they can't be used as a whip

Now I haven't gone this far... yet
but I read a description of a stinger from a us site. you mount a flexible pole (like the flag) sideways, make sure you shrpen the tip, or tape a nail to it, attach a fluro table tennis ball over the nail.
that way, car gets too close, car gets stung.
