A recent article in the media claims that cycling to work saves the federal government $21.
The economy benefits by more than $21 every time a person cycles 20 minutes to work and back and $8.50 each time a person walks 20 minutes to and from work, according to a policy statement released by Deputy Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday.

So if governments are serious about making a step change in the number of commuting cyclists, they could incentivise them financially - perhaps a tax refund of $10 every time you cycle to work (verified by your employer)? This would still save the government $10 per trip and with a surge in the number of cyclists , say an increase to 10%, traffic congestion would ease and more cycling infrastructure built instead. This would then encourage even more cyclists.
Maybe I should be Prime Minister?
