Cheers Guys. Back to the grind this morning, made just that little bit harder with a shower of rain at the start.

In other news I discovered this morning that one of the local racers of my acquaintance had his garage cleaned out of bikes yesterday. Details of the stolen bikes are here - just thought I'd put the word out.

Damn I hate bike thieves

I just missed the rain last night too. Roads were a little wet.

My new favorite time for riding is now after 12.30am. 20kms home and passed by only one car :D

And time for photos

Purty :) Riding at night is great. I quite enjoy it too.

End of the month today and the numbers have shown a solid improvement over May and June - 1058km and 12,144m of up for July. Quite pleased with that!

Nice work Grant! I believe half of that was in just two rides as well.

I was double checking my records and I haven't done a 1000km month since December 2011, my only 1000+ month at 1007.8. I plan to rectify that tonight though:-)

I will be lucky to hit 350kms for the month.

Hopefully next month I can above 500kms.

I will to reset my Garmin tonight so the ride home from work counts as August.

31 day month means I managed 800KM for July.

Unfortunately work is now insisting everyone gets there on time. Now I'm not a morning person (hence posting at midnight) so this is damned hard for me. The only way I can manage is to take the shorter direct route to work which cuts off 6KM on the way in. Such is life, I'll just have to do a few less KMs but still should make the yearly target.

6km is only around 15min. Just set the alarm 15min earlier. Losing 15min sleep won't kill you.

Nice work Dave!

Just 324km for me, much less than planned (bike out of action one week), 3323km YTD, 55% of 6000km target..

3415m of climbing, 31,694m YTD and aiming for 60,000m = 53% of target, 58% of year gone.

With Strava behaving badly with our progress bars I was forced to revisit my failed attempts to get the bar working off my Bike Journal log.

As you can see below this post I am now back in business. Andit shows I am comfortably ahead. :D It will look even better when I update my log in BJ which I have neglected of late.

(I only ever used Strava because I couldn't get BJ working anyway.)

Time for a bit of a July wrap up and what a month it was. The climbing may not have matched the Alpine Classic fuelled January but was my second best month (ever) at 11514m. The big thing though was the new PB of 1011.6km, breaking the 1000km for only the second time ever and this time without any of the gorgeous summer weather, the work Christmas shutdown, parents taking the kids, the wife still working and the first running of the Rapha Festive 500 which all lined up to make things a bit easier for the first one.

The things that did line up this month was a couple of July goals. July 6 saw Grant running the Berry Mountain 200. I was keen to get a longer ride in having not done one for several months so that would get that goal ticked off nicely. July 6 also happened to be the first day of the GCC mini challenge for July, known as the 100k club, the challenge was to clock up 100,000 steps in a week. I also had a personal goal of achieving a PB of 100,000 steps in a single day so what better way day to tick off that one than the first day of the 100k club challenge. With the 300 steps per km on the bike on top of steps registered on the 'GCC Pulse' throughout the day the Berry Mountain ride looked like a good way to knock over all those goals at once. The only thing that didn't line up so well was my recovery from illness through the later half of June. While I started the ride reasonably well the further on it went the tougher I was finding it. By the lunch break, a bit past half way, I realised I wasn't going to be able to maintain the pace of the others and let them go ahead to push on for the return leg solo. Grant had waited at the last checkpoint for me but not far down the road as things headed uphill I just had to watch him disappear ahead as with each of the rolling hills he moved further ahead and on the longer climb up to the Kiama bends he would disappear from view entirely.

Despite feeling well below my best I managed to stay positive. After all, even though I was last on the road I was still comfortably within the Audax time limits and as I pushed on things started feeling easier as the end kept getting closer and the hills remaining fewer. Felt great to pull into Dapto Station at the end with all those goals now completed. I wasn't there long and just getting ready for the ride home when I hear Dale calling my name and offering a lift home. Dale had completed the ride over an hour before me but after going and grabbing some dinner and waiting for his wife to come and get him was heading out of Dapto just as I was riding in and had turned around to pick me up.

The next big thing for the month would be the next day when I decided to head out to meet up with the Neighbours. When we had ridden past them in Kiama during the Berry ride I'd mistakenly assumed they'd moved the ride time back to 7 which they normally do during winter. However they'd just struggled in the wind and spent longer at the coffee stop than normal so when I headed out at 7 they where already half an hour into their Lake loop. So I headed off in the reverse direction to meet them enroute. After one false turn around as I turned early and slowed for a couple of riders which weren't them to catch up to me I ended up meeting them just after they took of from their halfway stop at the Jetty. The big deal about this ride was that I'd never ridden the day after a 200 before. In fact I'd only ever ridden an easy ride to and from work (a total distance just over 16km for the return trip) on the second day after one. It was refreshing to see that somewhere between 5 and 10km into the ride the legs gave up reminding me of the punishment I'd given them the day before and started working almost normally again. I'd also manage to get out for another solo ride the next day with similar results. Certainly gave me a nice confidence boost in my ability to back up day after day for the Tour da Country in a few months time. Speaking of which, I'd better finish up here and get some sleep so I can get up for a training ride in the morning.

Backing up is a good habit, always surprising how quickly the body recovers! And congrats on your PB :-)

Cold and windy here so I headed bush on the singlespeed.

40kms including a knee deep cold creek crossing.

That should have the course worked out for the AUDAX dirt 100 in September.

Now to just ride the whole thing in one go.

Love the creek crossings. I just hope it gets a bit warmer :)

I was organising a second running of the Royal Ride today. When I rode it solo earlier in the year it poured, and blew a gale and I was all alone. Today was sunny and the early wind was favourable and then dropped when we needed it to and I had some company. A great day out was had. We even saw an Echidna and a Bower bird and what was probably a whale but I couldn't be sure. Really enjoying my time on the bike lately :)

edit: just noticed I broke through 70k meters climbed today, and to think I used to hate climbing :D

I look forward to the report of ownership :-)

I've got a couple of weeks off work to catch up around the house and do a few pleasurable things. Today was no fun. I can ride hundreds of kilometers in a day, through rain and ice and heat, but replace 6ms of guttering  , I feel broken!

Nice to hear. Thanks heaps for working it out, certainly made my job of organising a lot easier. Let me know when you're heading out to ride it, I'm hoping I can get down there for it, otherwise I guess it may be as much of a new experience for me as any other riders that come along.

That fatbike looks awesome too... when are you getting one?

I am heading out sometime on Saturday to check out the first 30kms again and try and reduce the amount of bitumen to about 2kms. And then probably ride the whole lot the following Saturday.

I am hoping the ride is a group thing as it will be very hard to mark out 100kms of dirt :D

I would like to get a Fat Bike now but funds wont permit it :(

I will upload a video of the first section when I get home.
