The next Gold Coast Retro Ride is on Saturday 1st June. We will be leaving Tugun at 7.00am and heading to Kingscliff in NSW for coffee and banana bread (yum) The ride is a total of about 40kms with average grades of about 4%. My 10 year old grandson rides with me to Kingscliff so no excuses. There is one section off about 500 metres for the hill sprinters to have a race (Wal and Munga take note) and some good downhills to see "how fast she goes". I will give Currumbin Valley a miss until it warms up a bit because it is 2 degrees up the valley most mornings now.

Gold Coast Retro Ride on again this Saturday the 6th July. Starting outside Storm Cycles on Golden Four Drive Tugun at 7.00am. WE may ride north to Broadbeach for coffee and back or south to Banora Point up a hill and back to Cooly for coffee. All steel frame bikes welcome. Wal says he's not coming so it will be a little quiet. Any questions ring Rob on 0413749929.

Sorry guys I have been interstate and neglecting my duties. The Gold Coast Ride on the 6th July was supported by two quality riders. Unfortunately the Storm crew had the flu and did not ride. My son had been holed up with his kids for weeks and wanted to do a 100km ride so went on his modern Great weather great ride. So it was Geoff Courtney and myself that braved the Gold Coast Winter, 25 degrees clear blue skies. Thanks Geoff. The next ride is on the 3rd August starting from Storm Cycles on Golden Four Drive.

Gold Coast retro Ride on this coming Saturday the 3rd August starting Storm Cycles Shop on Golden Four Drive Tugun at 7.00am. We will probably try the Currumbin Valley ride to the Rock Pools and back having coffee at a shop at Throwers Bridge. All steel framed bikes welcome and anyone else interested in steel frames. For the Brisbane boys its a lot warmer down here than Brissy at 7.00am.

My dad has 2 VWs, one is a superbug and the other I think is an oval window, it has the Wolfsburg badge on the bonnet. Both pretty much wrecks sadly.

He has a camry actually, neither of the bugs has been driven (or driveable) for at least 20 years. WAY beyond my ability/willingness to try and restore.

Any provision for those into old minis and Landrovers? Might have to sit at a separate table at the coffee shop :(

lachy you'd be surprised how easy volleywobbles are to work on.
i used to have a 56 oval, and a clubman gt, so maybe i should be sitting at both tables.
unfortunately both of those cars were pre-digital, so no photos. i had real photos, but lost them in a flood.

Hey guys, this is a bike forum, not a VW appreciation society. Hope to see you on the coast Munga. Might ride my son's shocking orange Shogun. Does not qualify as Retro because the shifters are on the stem.

Thankyou to all the Brisbane guys who made the effort to drive down to the Gold Coast on what turned out to be a beautiful Gold Coast winter day. The ride up the Currumbin Valley was very brisk for an old guy like me but when Wal had a flat on his new Benneto, it gave me time to relax and get my breath back. Other than Terry and I all the other guys ride to work at least three days a week which makes a hell of a difference to a Saturday only rider or in Terry's case a Gold Coast Retro Ride only. Terry has a bad left knee so for the next three days after a ride he is walking around with an ice pack on his knee. Of course this is not helped when Rob White takes off after this poor modern rider who passed our group. Three other guys took up the challenge, Terry, Wal, and Gary to run him down and they just did that. When the rest of us caught up it was like being greeting by a group of dogs who had just found a ball. They were all over us with how they had showed him that "steel is best". Coffee on the banks of Currumbin Creek finished off a great ride, although a little short. I would like some feedback on how far you would like to ride. We can cover from 25kms to 80kms in a relatively easy ride. Or we can have a little more challenging, such as a 2 klm hill of average 6%.(that one's for Wal)
