In a proper club run race, yes. If they say you don't require a license, then you're not covered by insurance, and they're risking their cycling australia accreditation. Given that Marconi are a well established club, they're probably doing it by the book, but there are people out there who don't.

BTW, you can get a day license, but you'll be up for $33 or so on top of your race fee.

Not so much beginner races as such, but all races have A through to D grade at least... Start out in the lower grades and step up as you progress!

Hi dajackal, check out my website which bike races in Sydney for some idea of what's on. Most races have grades that would be suitable for a beginner, just talk to the guy on the desk before the race to work out where to go.

was just looking at their website, they look good, organised and friendly. and not too far from home.

ok at the moment that i know of running would be Penrith at the regatta centre and Parramatta on Saturdays at Oakville,

Penrith is a nice simple track that is all flat. i haven't raced at Oakville so i cant comment on what it is like but i understand there is a hill in it.

Have a look at the tour of august. We have races coming up at the regatta center, oakville and lansdowne. Good bunches and good racing. lacc.org.au

For all those interested racing at Eastern Creek Dragway under lights is back on tonight. Racing starts at 6.30pm, sign on from 5.30pm.
