I am heading over to Europe next year for a while with a number of friends and family. We see that there are a heap of segway tours in many cities.
Is there anywhere in Perth that could offer a chance to try one - really to get an idea if she can maintain some duration, hop on it without mishap, etc. A tour operator? A Segway club?
I am aware that tour operators take people thru a familiarisation and training spell. But in my party there will be some who are compromised physically more than they want to be. And for planning purposes I would like to make a "known unknown" into a "Known known".
(No, I am not displacing the trusty unicycle, that is going with me and it will be getting a fair flogging around the streets and alleys of Europe.)

Never mind - I thought that the only one was at Busselton but the same company also operates out of the Vines in the Swan Valley.
If anyone else is interested there is a page at http://www.segwaywest.com.au/index.html#VINES" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and, after speaking to the bloke on the end of the line the page is up to date. They operate in the twilight on the golf course to avoid dodging golf balls. And at this time of year four nights a week. Doncha just love perth winter?

Colin,
Visit http://www.segwaywa.com.au/
They are due to start as soon as Minister Buswell gives the go ahead, so are likely to be running before you go abroad.

Thanks. They haven't done much so far except set up an almost silent FB page and a totally silent Twitter account - sort of still lining up their ducks. However they have, reportedly, bought time on the concrete slab that is the unfinished hotel just east of the Bell Tower. Seems the perfect spot for tourists and, I imagine - quite cheap while nothing is being done towards the hotel.Sinner wrote:Colin,

There is a company already operating on the Vines golf course and not subject to the statutory restrictions. I expect that I will be getting my group together there around September or October. Basically a dozen or so people that are intending to be in Europe with me and mine late next year.

This week t structure for the new player in Segways - touring froma nd aroudn the bell tower - has been getting put together at the unfinished conrete pad between the bell tower and Sassys.
I am guessing that the regs allowing their limited use have now been set and gazetted or whatever. So, I suppose that Segway tours will be operating within, say a month.
