Great news as I was contemplating between a crankbased or another powertap for racing. I have a training wheel with a powertap but it is quite heavy.nickobec wrote:That is a $500USD price drop from $1299 recommended retail to $789, so under $700 on the street or ebay

I did a quick look at Wiggle but price is still $1299. I wonder when the price will come down.

Once they shift the remaining stock they paid full price for, I'd guess. Worth noting the current pricing to confirm who is passing on the full saving when it finally comes.silkishuge wrote: I wonder when the price will come down.

That is what I did last year 3kg training wheelset with an elite+ laced to mavic open pros to 2kg racing wheelset G3 laced to cheap chinese carbon rims (weight includes, tyres, tubes, rim tape, cassette & skewers ie elite+ ultegra cassette, GP4000s, lightweight tubes, G3 has sram red cassette, force/attack tyres, ultralight tubes)silkishuge wrote: Great news as I was contemplating between a crankbased or another powertap for racing. Yes it does stop me using different wheelsets for different purposes/races ie it is always 38 or 60mm front and 50mm rear.
But then again I use three different cranks, 175mm with asymmetric rings on TT bike, 172.5mm on road bike and 170mm on crit bike. So a crank based power meter is not for me.
Next year I might get a garmin vector so I can use more wheels.

What... an Australian distributor cashing in on Naïve consumers? That's pretty much how half of the industry survives isn't it? Buy O/S. Worst case scenario is you'll need to remove the hub and send it back at a cost of $50 (or thereabouts) plus another $50 to have your wheel re-spoked. Is it worth paying double to have local support?Mudgewa wrote:I spoke to the Australian distributor this morning and he tells me that they won't be releasing the price in Australia for a couple of weeks yet. No explanation offered as to why. I reckon they got caught off guard and are hoping naive people will buy their stock at the old price. Once again in Australia we cop it in the neck. I suggested that I could purchase one from the US today, but would rather deal with a local bike shop. The guy on the phone sounded like he didn't give a hoot. He was quick to point out though that any warranty issues with a Powertap bought from the US would not be honoured here in Australia.

IMO that is absolute BS. If product "A" from manfacturer "B" is faulty it shouldn't have any bearing on where the product was purchased, a refund should be given or product should be fixed or replaced.Xplora wrote:You couldn't force them to fix something in oz, because the warranty was not offered in Oz, but the USA.
I went through a similar thing with a bike frame i bought from USA and it developed a crack. I went to LBS that stocks that brand and they tried to get warranty for me even though they hadn't obviously sold it to me but the manufacturer knocked it back because they could tell from the serial number that it wasn't an Australian frame. needless to say I won't ever buy another frame/bike of that brand again becasue of this.

You will have to go through the dealer or distributor that you purchased from to have your warranty processed.
